Keep in mind it will be a partial VIN with the first two characters reversed from the actual VIN.

tnthull

Just 6T9 CHGR

No its the last 8 digits of the VIN....

Instead of 9B123456 it will read B9123456
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

I see. Thanks for clearing that...sorry I'm a little green when it comes to that stuff

tnthull

cdr

on a 69 charger it is an xp for non rt or xs for rt.  or xx charger 500,daytona

Wasn't there another little known/ top secret/ myth about a vin. stamping behind the back seat? On xbracing or other?
Please forgive my old brain from coming up with this stuff but it got in there some how.

tnthull

As he said its a partial which was
B9166172
Which I know from that its a 69 built in ham track

And I'll investigate that theory ASAP haha

tnthull

coundnt find anything in the back seat area unfortunately...but I got to thinking, since I have the final 8 digits in the vin, 9B166172 and I know the rest of the vin has to read (X p/s 29 F/G/H/L/J/M 9B166172) there are only 12 options(2 trim levels and 6 motor) of what this vin could be, so now im trying to find a site I can put in a 13 digit vin for a history report since I have just a few options and see if I get a hit....any thoughts??

do you know what , i remember hearing or reading something along them lines , from somewhere a long long time ago , but there is deffo nothing like that on a 69 charger

what condition is the car in ?  original unrestored ? but needing a resto ?

there is one way to narrow it down to  if its or was  one of these 3  slant 6 -or a 318  or non HP 383 2 barrel  originaly , or one of these  three , 383 hp four barrel , 440  or hemi ,
, but if its been messed about with in the past , may / could well have been altered  ,

see picture below , have you got a picture of yours like this , if so can you post it

I do. Ill post it as soon as I get home. It's a car that's original and restoration has been started in the front. Trying to sell it but I need to know what I have.

Some different models/years....had stampings in a couple of different areas in the back instead of the trunk lip area.

Glad to hear from someone else that has a memory about this. I have so much useless stuff built up on my hard drive it's hard to know what has value.
Since there are maybe three of us so far that have a hit on this it means there is something to it. (Or all three of us heard and remembered the same wrong information).
Would be fun to find the truth.  Calling on the Charger myth busters.

Maybe i missed something with so many ppl saying this. Ill check again in the daylight this time haha

Yes, I think certain year cars had it in the package tray area, some behind the rear bumper etc. I believe it applies to some A-Bodies and earlier B-Bodies. The Trunk lip and rad support areas apply to 68-70 B-Bodies.

maxwellwedge

Look for other clues such as if the car has one exhaust hanger or two. Torsion bar part numbers. Leaf spring part numbers. 22" or 26" rad support. Torque boxes etc.
