i guess they are hard drives and you can record over everyday so you don't have a million tapes to store??

been thinking of this with all the stupid car drivers out there while i'm in a 130K  lb truck, too many people want money

I'm looking into them myself in all of my cars. I heard some countries use them all the time because of high accident claims.

Every Russian driver has one. In my area drivers are starting to use them to protect themselves against nazi bicyclists looking to make a fast buck.

I'm also looking into it.  But rather than put one in every car, I'm hoping I can just use the one in all cars.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

I believe there is a smartphone app for this. It records a X second loop and uses the accelerometer to tell it when to start recording. Apparently you use the same window mount that you would for navigation. Don't know if it can run in the background with something else such as Navigation but I don't see why not.

Sad what we've come to isn't it?

daveco

I've been thinking about this myself.
I've had two specific incidents where I narrowly avoided accidents that, in retrospect, seemed intentional by the other driver.
Seems like more than one camera angle would be needed though.

One of the more popular cams are the GoPro units. You can take them anywhere, mount them anywhere......from your MOPAR to the foot board of your bed. Just sayin'  :D

Why...would you get out of your car in the middle of that traffic?

I don't have endless stamina!

Those Go Pro's are video cameras, right? I only want a dash cam. Something that mounts easily and is not to bulky.

They are very small cameras Fred. You can mount them on a bicycle helmet, motor cycle handlebar, dash board with a cell phone/GPS Mount etc. I've seen YouTube vids where people have attached them to their dogs collar. Fun stuff.

Thanks Tom. I asked because I'd just received a sale catalogue advertising them and those were quite large and rather expensive.  Obviously there are different types. I need to get myself to the store and check them out.

Old Moparz

Why spend the money on a dash cam when every building, every traffic light, every pedestrian have cameras?

And don't forget there will be two drones for every person in a year or so.

As I mentioned.. no need to buy a dedicated device if you don't want...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dailyroads.v&hl=en

QuoteActing as a car blackbox, dash cam or auto DVR, DailyRoads Voyager continuously records videos and captures photos during your journeys. The app automatically records everything, but only important events are retained for future reference or as evidence. You get to choose what to keep, simply by touching the screen, even while you drive.

Key features:
- Continuous video recording, with user-defined length and video quality; sound can be included
- User-defined storage space on the SD card with cyclic recording; i.e. the card never fills up
- One-touch video retention allows you to keep video files for interesting road events during the whole journey

A comparison of a few http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

As with all things, way too many to choose from.  Only leads to confusion and wishing you bought the other one once you get the one you bought up and running. :-\
