it didn't get down there. Too far to walk.  :pity:  the Max Wedge cars were in there. My old boss , Ken Heckert . From Heckert's Auto Body also a celebrity judge there for many years. Told me they had Hartstein's Max Wedge there. He was my pap-pap's neighbor . He had a funeral home. The car was painted green " very taboo back then" . It was called Rigamortis . It was very famous here at US 30

Cool story Jackie.

I still wonder why they got rid of the retro-dealership?  :scratchchin:  I thought it was a great idea. Now its just called Building G.

Does anyone know why 1973 was the last year for the dealership besides the obvious extinction of muscle cars?

Carlisle could have easily started over and re-booted for 1965...if that was the first year represented (I may be wrong on the year).

Ghoste

I didn't know they gave up on the dealership display, that was a cool touch I always thought.

Just 6T9 CHGR

After '72- (2012), finding restored '73 examples for 2013 were very scarce.  Also not much memorabilia to display also

This from Ed B. himself.....

QuoteHi Guys!

I'm still the Event Manager and Bruce is 100% correct - I'm REALLY busy right now. The directory is due, the show field must be laid out and the show season is in full swing. I'll be working in the office until at least 8 tonight then probably work some more from home after spending a little time with the family.

Yes, I am doing a huge Max Wedge Reunion this year! How about 2 Color Me Gone cars and Roger Lindamood. Also, Roger's son Randy will be bringing his current project, a 2013 Challenger drag car done in the CMG scheme. Arlen Vanke will be there as will his '63 Max Wedge car plus, TWO Max Wedge convertibles, one FOUR DOOR Maxie, some rare colored cars and more. Look for 20-24 legit Max Wedges in there!

OK, the straight scoop on why the break from Beeney Motors:

1. It was time for a change.
2. Memorabilia for '72 and later is scarce.
3. Correctly restored '72s were hard to get. '73s nearly impossible.

Personally, I loved doing the Retro Dealership and the help I received from Art Reisinger and Dennis Kohr made it all possible!! I've been hearing comments the last couple of years that it was the same display over and over. That's simply not true. Yes, some of the signs were the same and a few of the posters (what dealership replaced signs every year??) but a lot of effort was put into changing EVERYTHING that was year specific. Bottom line, none of us wanted it to get stale so it was time for something new.

It may come back in the future but not for a least a few years. Next year will be a Race Hemi Reunion. I have a few ideas for 2015 but I'm not ready to commit to anything yet. 2016 will be a celebration of the Street Hemi.

I'm glad many of you enjoyed Beeney Motors as much as I enjoyed doing it. My first memory of a car dealership is from 1979 so I wanted to recreate something that I missed out on the first time around. Thank you to everyone who participated over the years!!

Well, the show field won't lay itself out so I better get back to it.

Stuart tried to look for pics on your FB but links just brought me to you're MASSIVE collection of photos, couldn't find 'em. Please post a few :-)

I guess when the complaints outnumber the compliments, things are going to change.  If they wait a fwe years like he's saying it will be fresh and interesting again.

Great pics, Stu!

I spoke with Ed B a few years ago about the dealer building, even back then he was getting worried about ideas as the theme years were progressing and finding later model cars were getting tougher. I told him there were many things he could do, such as a Grand Spaulding display, Creative Industries recreation, etc etc.
I think what makes Carlisle great is that they change things year after year to keep it fresh. Part of the demise of the Mopars at Etown show here in NJ is that it never changed or evolved with the hobby, and people got sick of this same old thing.
Ed puts together an AMAZING show. :yesnod:

Those theme ideas are pretty good Bill, I would want to see those.

JB400

You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to do a 73 display.  I see quite a few of the A and E bodys done factory correct in the magazines quite often in the year.

Looks like I'll have to put this event on my bucketlist. :popcrn: :popcrn:

Great pics Stu, thanks for putting them up

What a great time out at the show this year. My five year old son is still talking about it. Plus this is the first year I won an award with my car. We got second place in '69 B body stock charger too!

Congrats. My boy had a good time playing with yours. I had the 500 right next to you.
