Anyone ever see a 69 Charger die cast with the tall bumperettes on it?

Dino

Hmm never paid attention to that.  I guess I'm always disappointed because they don't seem to be correct in many ways.  Besides me, who's running the tall bumperettes anyway?   :icon_smile_big:

Brocks is from the final week of production.

Dino

I've always preferred the look of the shorties so I may end up removing mine.

I do too but Im always looking to keep the diecast collection well rounded.  ;)

TPR

Never really noticed either. Just took a look. I have a few dozen '69's and none of them have the tall bumperettes.
It would have been an extra cost to tool a second kind of bumper, so I'm not surprised that they never did it.
Shame though. It would have been good to see some more variety in the small details.
I think the diecast market has gone down the toilet. Only a few manufacturers left and they aren't producing much at 1:18 scale.

WHITE AND RED 69

None of the diecast chargers I have seen have them. I doubt they would even pay attention to that small of a detail?

Yep, I got them on mine too. My car was missing them when I bought it but a picture from 1972 of my car shows tall bumperettes so that's what went back on.

All diecasts that I've seen have all had the shorter ones.

The tall bumperettes just don't appeal to me that much.  Pushbar on the other hand :2thumbs:  :D  What was the reason for switching to the tall ones anyway?  Are they just 70 units that made it into the production line early? :popcrn:

Ok...

I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree, so somebody help me out here...

When did "Bumper Guards"

Become "Bumperettes" ?

:shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:

35 + years of F%@&ing with this junk and I'd never heard of "Bumper Guards" being

called  "bumperettes" until I read it on here...

:shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:

Ghoste

It likely spilled over from other car makes.  In my defense I have to deal with a lof of other cars everday besides Mopars and at least I didn't call them "over riders" which is another term that some countries apply to them.

Good question.  I think they are a lot different but I have never actually put them side by side.  My guess would be a vendor change or something like that.

fy469rtse

I would leave them dino , they have probably marked the chrome plating , not that much difference in look, bumper guards bumperettes , they refer to them in Australia as overriders ? Wtf

That's my concern as well, there's probably a few scratches and marks in the chrome which won't be covered by the shorties.  When I redo the grille I'll have to remove the bumper so I can check at that time.  It's not a priority and I don't dislike these but don't think they're as nice as shorties.

69_500

Just a side note here but so far I have seen ZERO of the 69 500's with the high bumper guards.  My 69 SE sunroof car had the tall ones but its VIN was in the 426xxx range.

Ghoste

Were any of them built late enough to fall into that group?

TNT

The date of production late or early determined whether they had the short or long bumperettes, the cars the models were based on probably were mostly early production.

Ghoste

That part I totally underrstand.  I just wanted to be sure that if there were a idecast out there with the tall ones, that I picked one up in order to keep a well rounded set of diecasts gathering dust.

tan top

i always though the tall bumper guards were late built 69 models  , from  May onwards rings a bell ,  but i could easily be getting mixed up with something else ,
