My buddy in IT should be able to start helping me with this soon and although my plan was largely to just continue on the way Chris had been doing it (I'm a fan of "if it ain't broke...) I still thought it might be a good time to ask if there were things some of you thought really needed to be added, changed or deleted?

Shawn, I always wanted to add a searchable VIN feature....have a limited amount of data available on the site itself.   Just the VIN, the color (int, ext & vinyl top) trans & stripe or delete stripe etc.  With just the State of its last whereabouts (multiple states with a date history if applicable)

Know what I mean???

yeah thats a good idea , there is something similar over on moparts ,  word of caution though & i'm guessing we all know what i'm about to say !! , while all i've ever met in person  or  emailed or  messaged or bought parts from , or chatted & messaged via this site ,    in the mopar world are stand up guys , honest  genuine , mopar brothers ready & willing to help   :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:   ,
on the other side of the coin , there are many many other kind of people out there , just wanting to make fast money & don't care how they do it , ( thats just putting it in a nice way ) full vin number of what motor your looking for , nothing stopping someone , re stamping a motor &  bondowing new casting dates !! saying it yours !! especially if you live few hundred or thousand miles  or other side of the world away ! & your only going by few emailed pictures  & casting numbers , if every one in the world was honest & genuine  would not be a problem .

Good point, and they do lurk on all of the sites watching for "opportunities".

There's a wing car owner on the forum who can vouch for that.

Then we need to do this as a group with the interests of members here with access limited to those who have registered there cars with the condition and nominated there drive trains not numbers matching, being known to this site and regular contributors or members long time , the regulators of this site could keep this sort information private, we log information regarding vin make model, we do the same with any transmission engine block we may have, could it be done , is there a program that would link numbers, don't want to swamp the person running this site either, the then result could be a pm to the person about a found block or trans that could be yours

Might be useful to have some sort of web form for submitting information.  I used to send Chris emails with what ever information I could get from the car ads I was looking through which varied widely. (I have data for another car waiting) With the form you it would be obvious what info you would like to have (all optional I suppose) and send an automated response so folks know it got submitted if they wanted (if they provided an email). It also provides a way to contact folks if something of interest gets submitted. It might reduce the people management you go through. Have a way to upload pics and try to avoid the size constraints as this will cause folks to just give up after 1 or 2 attempts.

It would also be nice to have the stats (histograms) automatically generated from a database query rather than just static pics of excel sheets.

Any way you could provide tech pubs such as Service Bulletins? I realize that there may be some issues with this info such as the FSMs.

As is always nice, a way to plugin your fender tag/vin and get it decoded. Or at a minimum a link to another site that does this. In a more advanced site it could also return stats for those options. There is an argument that could be made about providing meaningful error reporting on decoding, as it might help an unscrupulous person correct their info.  :Twocents: :shruggy:

I would avoid yet another site that folks have to create an account on just to perform basic tasks such as searches or submitting info.  :Twocents:

How about a section for 68's and change the name of the site to "second Gen chargers" ;D

That would be 68's, 69's and 70"s, to be a 2nd gen Charger registry site. Last I checked the other years were taken.  ;)  A '68 registry will get here..just a lot to do before that happens.   :yesnod:

This idea seems like the best way to push the scammers into a small corner.-----
If the last few of the car vin. was kept private on the registry but the non matching engine/ trans. were not than a member may see their engine/trans on the site in another car. That is one up side.-----
Lets say my car was on the registry with vin. blocked and nothing else. That would mean engine and trans matched.-----
If my car on the registry showed vin for another car on the engine/trans than those numbers would show to the public and members could see them.--
If the numbers on the engine/trans were not known a ? would do.-----
I am one of those that want's to go ahead and do what we want to do without fear of the bottom feeders. With that comes some risk because they seem to be very resourceful. But so are we. And when it comes to matching a car with with an engine or transmission that comes along rarely and needs special attention by all involved.
BTW I am looking for the hemi that my coronet was issued with. The vin is XXXXX :shruggy:

think posting  what motor your looking  for  is ok example  your vin &  leave the last three digits off  XXX  there are hundreds of vins prolly close to yours , & im sure  Chris &  now Ghoste of the 69 charger registry :coolgleamA:  can tell you , thats a safer way IMO ,  there were  hundreds & hundreds of  318 / 383 / 440 ,  cant see any one working out your vin ,  may be a close guess with a SPD , but they would still have to tell you their last three digits on the block , your not telling them   ,  having said this , a Hemi car is different soo few were made , most have had pictures , articals done over the years disclosing the vin ,
thinking  about it ,  then your 318 383 440 or what ever could of had it done too picture / magazine articles old forsale ads   :shruggy:
not sure where i'm going with this , made sence when i started typing :scratchchin:   :cryin: :P

It is a challenge to address matching lost engines with owned cars. I get that you are looking in the same direction I am. Which is to find a real lost engine and keep the scammer out of it.
If I were to post a search for an engine it would have to be minus the last few numbers. That seems like a waste of time. I think no one will pay any attention.
Maybe just a lost and found section on the registry would be the best we could hope for. The trick would be to move people to post engine vins. Good luck on that  :shruggy:
