Well, as I get closer to the painted '68, I start diggin' and find things I totally forgot about... First, it was the holddown, now it's this vacuum advance solenoid for Hemi's....  How many year's got this?... Was it a '68-'69?
Looks like the bracket was on the motor prior to painting and then they installed and crimped the solenoid.....

Hey Troy.  I bet it kinda feels like Christmas all over again, huh?  I've got a few pictures that might be good motivation for you.  This car was at one of he local car shows.... and boy was that thing beautiful!!!  B5 blue with blue interior.  I have more pictures if you need them.  By the way, could you post a couple pictures of your car when you first got it?  Ylou may have already posted them and I just missed it.  I'm kinda here and there on the board from time to time.  Later!

There were seriously about 600 cars at this car show... and of all of them... I looked at this one the most.  That thing had to be one of the finest examples of a Charger.  I'm just glad he did it right!  I don't know what the owner of this car did for a living... but he was definately LOADED!  Not only did he have this car, he also had a beautiful (for a Ford) '67 Shelby GT500.  I took a bunch of cool pictures of the Charger.  I forgot to mention..... not only was is a Hemi... it's also a 4spd!  He was telling me that just a few weeks prior to the car show, he was offered $120K for the car and turned it down.  Here's a couple "cool shots" I took of the car.  Enjoy!

P.S. The keys were left in it... how tempting is that?!

That thing IS SWEET !!!!!  More inspiration for mine... Must be a late-production with that Hurst Shifter.........

Thanks for the pics... You have any of the engine? I'd be curious if he had the vacuum advance solenoid........

If it doesn't work, I'll either "by-pass" it some how. But, I do wish to keep it with that factory look... I'm going to be using my Prestolite dual-point in her...

You can use the dual point prestolite for stock looks. And use the petronix set up for the dual point .That green valve as I recall is a vacuum delay valve

I tried that Petronix on my friend's 383 and I wasn't impressed. I'm running a factory Prestolite in my C500 right now and absolutely love it.. Runs so much better and smoother than the MP electronic conversions... I had the distributors serviced by a local guy who has a centrifuge for points... Yeap, that's my understandind as well Dave. Doesn't work off heat, straight manifold vacuum...

Troy,

I bought one of those valves from Ken Burbach a few months ago.  I think they were first used in '68, at least the P/N would indicate that (2863739).  I know '69s used them as well - but I think they were ditched for '70+.

I wasn't sure about whether the bracket was painted or not though, to be honest.  If they did paint the bracket, then I agree they probably crimped the valve on there afterwards (or they did a great job of taping off the valve - which isn't very likely).  I have also wondered whether or not I got the intake studs/bolts mixed up, and whether or not the intake was supposed to have two studs back there in those mounting holes to make it easier to change out the valve if necessary.  An answer to that question would be how much clearance there is between the air cleaner base and the valve as you have it mounted now.  If it's tight, then there probably isn't any way that there were nuts in between the bracket and the manifold (which would raise the bracket and the valve).  Just a thought.

Do you have the intake manifold port fitting to work with that valve?  My car isn't a PB car, so I only need a 2-port fitting, one medium-sized port for the headlights, and a small port for this valve.  I haven't found a fitting that would work, so I haven't installed the valve on my car just yet.

Here is a pic of the valve I got from Burbach (same as the one you have):
