Nice, clean, amber-colored oil after 3,000 miles

Time and time again I've heard people brag about how after 3,000 or more miles on their oil they pull the plug and supposedly see that what comes out looks as good as what went in. Now I'm not calling anyone a liar but I've changed a lot of oil/filters in my day and I have NEVER seen used oil looking like new oil. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe I'm color blind, I don't know but the best I've ever seen is dark brown.

Can anyone here claim they get new looking oil out of their pan after 3,000+ miles of use? If so I want strict documentation with time-stamped video because so far I've seen more reliable evidence for the existence of Bigfoot.

I don't know about new but pretty good looking??   3000 seems a bit.  Easy use and no big burnouts.  so ok.  Are you worried??

Not worried I've just never seen it and am thinking it's an old wives tale after spending the past 30+ years working on just about everything with wheels.

I have been changing the oil on the wife's PT every 3000 miles, it's a little dirty, but not bad. The car has just over 109,000 miles on it.

The oil changes on the other cars at 3000 miles is dark brown. The newer cars are not getting the oil as contaminated as our older cars.

mine is dark brown, but goes in light brown that is all

These new engines are very "tight". Add that to running slightly lean for emissions and fuel mileage and you have oil that is far less "burnt" than in the older engines. The key to good looking oil is never ever let it run over due for a change.  Now having said that, I have never seen it look "new" at oil change.  I do see it that is still transparent at oil change.

That's pretty much how it is for me. The modern stuff is really clean while the older stuff is dirty. My wifes Caliber with the 5w20 is probably the cleanest oil coming out of the engine on a change.

Perhaps part of the deal is I have rarely changed oil on a new vehicle, as in less than a year old. I've never owned a new car and a lot of the oil changes I have done over the years have been on diesel engines. But I know I've seen and heard people make the thread title claim.

Of all the vehicles I've owned/worked on, there is one that has always had surprisingly clean oil.  Clean enough that one time it made me second guess the fact it hadn't been changed for well over 2 years and at least a couple thousand miles.  I won't say that it's "new", but even compared to newer cars it is exceptionally clean.  Still clear and bright on a paper towel, never seen the oil dark brown or hazy.  Funny thing is, it's a carbed 258 straight six in a 1984 jeep cj-8, no clue why.

I drive a company truck (chev) and the oil gets changed every 3000mi. My driving is nearly all long distance on the freeway. The oil always looks new and I attribute that to very little stop and go driving.
Another thought is sometimes the rings in all cylinders break in just right.

Do an oil change on a propane Hi-Lo, comes out about as clean as it went in.

My company truck gets oil changes at 5000 miles. ARI leased vehicle. They wont change it any sooner. It is pretty dark around the 4000 mile mark. Really dark at 5000. All stop and go driving.

I changed the oil in my HCI 91 mustang 5L last year and put in mobil 1 10-30 full synthetic. I put 2000 mile son last summer. I changed the oil in May this year and it literally looked like new.

The block is .030 over and maybe 10,000 miles on the shortblock. I run it pretty easy. A couple redline runs and burnouts a season. Usually shift it at 2500 rpm.

I will check my truck its an 01 cummins and i run regular 15-40 rotella 10 qts. I've got about 2000 miles on it and oil is still light color.
The shocker was the last 12v cummins i had bone stock no pump mods. I changed the oil once in the 2 years i had it. Had probably close to 10,000 miles on it. Never took oil and it had just started to go dark.

My little 01 TDI jetta gets 5-40 synthetic rotella and literally in about 500 miles is black.
