Daytonas/Superbirds with headers

Hey gang...

I've been contemplating swapping out the exhaust manifolds on my Daytona to TTI ceramic coated headers. I know !!!, right?........ Troy do something so radical !!!!  ( I used to do this plenty in my much younger days ).........

Anywho, I was wondering about the comparative experiences with the heat in the engine compartment between exhaust manifolds and ceramic headers. I am thinking the cast iron manifolds retain a lot of heat whereas the headers might dissipate it quicker, hence the ambient underhood temperatures don't get so hot............ Any thoughts?

I do not have the TTI headers on our superbird, but however I do have the 3" full TTI bolt on dual exhaust with h-pipe.  :2thumbs:

I don't know....there would be a lot more "surface area" for heating up the engine compartment I would think with headers rather than the stock manifolds

not COMPLETELY apples to apples, but there's less heat with the TTI's on the 5.7 than there is on the cast iron heat sinks in the 'birds.  I opted for the ceramic coating, too.

TTI's are on the wish list here, too.  The headers just fit so well.  I'd be tempted to save some bucks and get a Pypes exhaust behind it, though...not completely bolt-on but it's hundreds cheaper.

I had 1-7/8" tti headers and their 3" h-pipe exhaust on my 69 R/T...had that set-up on the car since I put it together in 2002 and never had any heat problems....car had iron heads, alum intake, holley carb, and ran high 12s...car was black, so it always was relatively hot anyway...

Daytona Guy

I had both on the same engine. For me at least, I had no noticeable change in temp under hood. The only thing I noticed, is that the car was quieter with the TTI ceramic headers - I did not like that - for the fact that the louder the better is my liking :) Personally, I'm never going back to headers on any motor now, as long as I have the HP manifolds. The HEMI manifolds are awesome too. I'm not planning on taking my HEMI in the 6K range and racing it, so this puppy pulls well for what I want. TTI' are the best, the fitment is amazing, but the collector does hang out the bottom, and may scrape on speed bumps - if your stance is lower than factory.

No scientific evidence but I always thought headers made it seem hotter underhood to me.  :shruggy:

yeah , me too , got thin wall tubing bending ever where to clear stuff , running close to parts etc ,  :yesnod:  :Twocents:

not wanting to hijack ,  came across this by accident a while back , & this thread jogged my memory , with stock fuel line routing  where it runs  next to  sort of thing to the exhaust  ,   directly where the fuel lines are bolted with a clip on  rear shock cross member , hard lines get hot with radiated heat from 3 inch pipes , with out mesuring lines are prolly less than 5 inches away maybe  ,  prolly  even close with stock 2 1/4 " pipes !!  :scratchchin:
any one noticed this before  :shruggy:  cant help with  crap  gas these days

Troy, have a look at Headers by Doug as well as TTI, got em on my 68 R/T, 2", nice fit, performance and look - ceramic chrome coating and comparably a bit cheaper by cost.
Not such a great pic, all I could find at 11.53pm and a few bourbons when I got home , but we did head out for an 80 mile club night run earlier...and yes, I will be getting rid of the hot rod 90's stuff and going for the correct pie tin and Ma's tin covers

How do they fit by the torsion bar crossmember?  That's the best part of the TTI's.

I like Doug's headers since they have my name on them ;)

The trick is to have the headers ceramic coated inside and out. In that case, the headers are much cooler than the cast iron manifolds. All of our dragster headers are coated like that.

I didn't fine the ceramic coating inside and out any cooler, for when I grabbed them when the engine was hot and running it still hurt really bad  :smilielol:

So it didn't take long to check the temp that way?  :hah:

Daytona Guy

They both seemed about the same :) Scientifically speaking - But it was a dry heat  :yesnod:

Jesus Dane you never listened to your father when he said don't do that or find out the hard way lol headers increase power ambient heat is less , very minuses all positives , cool down a lot quicker with ceramic ,  :2thumbs:

Doug, Its like a friend of mine Martin wanting a Martin guitar   similar gig though - quality.

I did a few pics on fitment if anyone was interested, bear in mind - I think these have been on the car close on 10 years. Also, some surface rust is appearing on the internal faces of the 4 into 1, but not really a cause for alarm
There's a bit of a bark up on the drivers side, not too major though,  I can only assume its rubbing when I'm holding my foot hard in it lighting it up
I have heard these Doug's are the closest to TTI for fitment and vice versa

Would you believe I burnt my head on my Bassett headers when I had a t/rammed sbc flatbottom boat leaning in to check the dipstick. The next weekend I burnt the other side checking the alternator, must be why I cant grow the hair back

Few more on header pics
Clearance is good on pas side and good ground clearance too
