Seems like everyone I know thinks clowns are creepy or stupid. Perhaps I simply surround myself with anti-clown friends or maybe clowns are universally loved...help me find out with this scientific study!

burnout.dawg

Yep...kinda creepy. Mostly, because I know there is a real person under the disguise, with a somewhat questionable personality.

I think John Wayne Gacy did a lot to... ruin their reputation.

I used to work with a guy named Buddy who was deaf and he was a cowboy-style clown, did balloon animals for kids and was a genuinely sweet old dude who just like to make people smile.

However, for every Buddy the Cowboy Clown, there are 100 creepers who dress up in the mirror in clown face and ask their reflection things like 'Why didn't daddy ever hug me?' and 'I wonder how I can adopt a Cambodian child and noone find out about it...'

They are freaks. Worse than zombies.

Best movie ever: Shakes the Clown, from 1992. Bobcat is Shakes. Cameo from Robin Williams. The movie is proof of what freaks the clowns are.

While gacy is a notable deviant clown, I think clowns were kinda universally thought creepy somewhat by nature.

Clowns are cool......I don't have to live with, or near one, so if they are messed up it's not my problem.

I'm not fond of clowns for the simple fact that they try too hard to be funny.  Some comedians fall into this category as well.  Being funny is more of a gift than a talent.

Nope, not the painted kind, not the circus, not the self proclaimed kind and only a marginal tolerance for the classroom kind.

My first memory is being at a birthday party with a clown there.  I must have been about three years old and the site of those big clown feet sent me running for home in tears.....

I agree with 68X426 on Shakes the Clown.  Boston Globe called it "the Citizen Kane of alcoholic clown movies".

Rodeo clowns are okay in my book. Stupid maybe for standing in an arena with an angry bull. But definitely more trustworthy than a circus or party clown.

Great observation. Agreed!

They work for a living. Not like the spine chilling mutants of the big top and street festivals.
