Hey gang..
I'm collecting experiences for Dave P. on the 1970 hood seals that are being sold out there. I bought one YEARS ago and at the time, they were junk.. The rubber was real thin and actually too narrow, left big gaps at the ends by the fenders. That's all I have in reproduction products, I've always searched for good used original pieces.. He's thinking of reproducing a quality product if there's a demand for it and being that the Daytona seal is nothing more than a '70 Charger, well.... You get the picture.

I bought one of the ones currently available.

It was junk.

We need someone to make a correct one.

I do know that none of the repro seals come with the metal backing strips. Gotta re-use your old ones, so take good care of them.  :yesnod:

The current repro is an extrusion, while the profile has been improved, and the manufacturer now offers more material to trim to ones desired length, for a 70 Charger application, it's a good repro, ...however in a Daytona application, it leaves a lot to be desired, the reason being the angle that the cone forces the seal to take when installed, it ends up standing somewhat erect, rather than on the same plane as the fender seals, I've used a few of the repro hood seals on customers Daytona builds, but usually I buy the seal months in advance, then fold over the edge of the seal, forcing the profile into a "U" shape, by wedging it into a piece of extruded "U" shaped aluminum, then blast it every day for a few minutes with a heat gun for about a month or so to "train" it into a useable shape, if DP want's to make a "useable" Daytona hood molding, skip the extrusion process, tool a die casting for rubber injection moulding, alter the angle of the profile from 90 degrees, to an Acute angle of 70 degrees, and preform the "V" formation it requires to match the hood lines, and drop the rubber's durometer down to around 50A- 60A, and offer the steel retainer strip....in fact, a venture into the entire Daytona nose cone seal set up would be a welcome product on the market,...IMHO, I wouldn't pursue making repro's of the OEM stuff, it was horrible from day one, newer tooling/profiles for a cleaner look/fit/finish....but to do so, one just stepped from thousands, into tens of thousands in tooling alone :scratchchin:

This is all interesting, but would love to see pics - hard to understand the new ones described - never seen them :)

This was on the Areo section, guess you missed it, this is how the repro seals "sits" on the nose....

Not Bad.

Good !

Maybe we can get something decent made if the manufacturers know we'll buy it. :Twocents:

I could use two for the correct seals if the price was right. One for my current Charger for its resto some day & a second one for my Dayclona project for the other Charger.
