Bought My Dream Car = 2013 Plum Crazy Challenger

Finally got the dream Mopar. Saved my nickels and dimes for years. The wife signed off.

It's an RT Classic, lots of options, the 5.7 Hemi is awesome. Sure the 6.4 is an animal, but way too pricey.

I am a big guy and I fit in it just fine. Rated at 25 mpg highway, the first long (and fast) trip got 28 mpg. With 372 hp in a 4500 pound car, it is shocking how great the gas mileage. The handling is killer.

Good for you. We need to get something for ourselves after years of working and saving. And that your wife is with you all the better. There is a big following of these and thirty years from now they might be like the old 68-69 chargers.
In 69 I saw the dealer adds for the new plum crazy hemi challenger it was just a dream back then. I was 18 and looking for my path in the working world. It would be fun to have one of each--hhmmm

Thanks everyone. It originally did have the black side stripes. I think they destroy the great visual lines of the body design, so I asked the dealer to take them off. Sort of my own stripe delete. The stripe decals are on top of the clear coat, so there's no evidence it was ever there.

It's a sleeper look now, with no hood stripe, nothing but the Dodge logo on the back, a small r/t logo on the front grill, and small hemi emblems on the hood. It is as Plum Crazy as can be.

Funny enough, a Kiwi mate of mine aged 49 flew over in early May and brought a 2012 Chally in that hot house green colour ( not that you'll hear me slagging off a green manual Hemi car here ) and then drove it across 3 states down to the shipper in LA, what a trip that would've been

Buy one by all means BUT..........never ever replace it with your 69. If you have to choose, the 2nd gen has to come out on top.

Yes, just 2008-13. 

They are obsessed with stripes, wheels, and tuner chips. Just as one would suspect.

One advantage that forum has is the volume of members - more than 30,000 and damn if they aren't all active. Most days have at least 500 new topics, and 1000s of posts. Most subjects run only 5 to 10 posts. Rarely are they long and involved topics like here. I think it's another sign that the younger generation has no attention span. Of course there is nothing to fix on a new Mopar, and it's tough to talk history when it only goes back to '08.

Obviously an old guy like me belongs here, but it is a very good community there too. Just mostly young and inexperienced. And that's ok.

Doubt that. Seems to be owned by JelSoft Enterprises, doing business as AutoGuide.com. http://www.autoguide.com/

They appear to be an advertising company, maintaining over 400 websites for car folks, including ChallengerTalk. Looks like the same template and methodology used for each one, just replicated for a focused audience (by the type of car). There is a ton of ads on the site, nothing from Chrysler that I've seen, I'd say there is no Mopar connection.

I agree with you about the challenger site. When I decided to buy my 09 I spent a lot of time there but it was small new and more like this place. I ordered my car over the phone with the dealer and as soon as a vin was established I could watch on line it's progress (or lack of progress) in manufacturing. I even learned what the msrp was before the dealer knew.
It took about 4 weeks from vin to the train ride and that day I would log in every few hours to watch where the train was crossing the country. Great fun and added to the anticipation.
After I got the car there wasn't much draw to the challenger site as it grew to be the same stuff over and over. The car has 14,000 mi now and I have no complaints. A great car. I even invent road trips sometimes.

Any ex owners out there? What made you sell besides financial reasons?

My experience is just a small and random sample, but I searched for a year for a used Challenger, especially the 2010s (they were the last year that the chip could be "cracked" and yield improved performance). I never came across one seller with a negative about the car. It was always financial problems.

Yes, of course a seller will lie about any problems, but it seemed for real - no complaints on quality, dependability, or performance.

OK, once there was a seller who wanted a new Mustang, and maybe it wasn't purely financial.

I am remembering a consumer reports survey that rated the 09 challenger highest for consumer satisfaction for that year. (90%+). Had I been asked It would have been higher.

I hear ya about ChallengerTalk (and LXForums, etc). There is stuff to fix on those cars, but its usually such a common problem that when you do ask a question about it, you get snarky comments like "there are 100 threads about it already...don't you know how use search?"  I met some good people and friends at both of those sites, but I hardly go there any more. Some times it gets a little silly, like when you read about the guy who never drives his '09 Challenger and keeps it in a climate controlled garage with tire warmers because its a "numbered" car; or how at LXF people are buying door projectors  like its the greatest thing ever.

Congrats on your purchase! I just sold my 2010 PCP R/T classic. i originally got it because it was supposed to be a limited run, and hardly anyone knew it was available until it was too late in 2010. That made it cool and different. Only 1 other person anywhere around Baton Rouge had one. Then dodge in usual fashion went out this year and brought back the color again, so now they are popping up everywhere around here.. So much for being different. That irritated me to no end. On a positive note, i am very glad you were able to get one this time around. And honestly i didn't understand why dodge didn't just offer PCP, sublime, hemi orange, B5 blue, and Detonator Yellow as a permament color from the get go. I think the bright colors look best on a challenger.

Since it was both my birthday and Fathers day it was time to buy something for myself for a change
I saw a couple purps at the dealer in my area that looked good

In the past I've seen pics of 2010 models with the white stripe and a white interior. They are spectacularly flashy.

But for me I don't want the stripe. Katzkin (spelling?) makes a white interior replacement for the Challengers, but it costs thousands. I'm good with the factory grey leather.
