Hi,
Bought my 68 Charger R/T last July, and im now thinking about maing it sit at its standard height as i think the stant atm looks tacky. Any ideas for wheels? My son has done a chop for me with torq thrust 2 wheels on it, what do you think?
The 1st attachment is how it is now, and the second is a chop.

Arkgl01

i am still looking for my charger but I like the modern look on muscle cars, I call it the chip foose look. I know alot of people dont like it but I am younger and love it. I wanted to do 19s on the front and deep billet 20s on the back on my next charger. Just my 2 cents..
69 440 RT matching.. mostly original!

A bit too big, IMHO

Hey, i know,lol.
im thinking of 275 tyres on the back and 245 fronts with 15's. 15 x 8 back and 15 x 7 front.

Blown70

I like the rear the fronts need to be 1 inch less.

I personally like them   if DONE CORRECTLY  TO me they look really nice

KWS  18 fronts and 19's in the rear?  I personally like it

That's the kind of stuff I like. In that case, it would look great. Have him chop some Weld prostars on it. I really like those as well.

Lol, thanks, and yea, good idea. Ill ask him tomorrow. I think im still liking the TT's tho. I have seen muscle cars over here in the UK with big 19 inch wheels on them and think they look great. Just think that id be paying out fortunes for tyres all the time. The 15 x 8 back and 15 x 7 front seem practical and after seeing some Chargers on here with that set up, i think it looks great, sits just right. I used to love the stant it has, but have got bored, and want it standard ride height.

I'm definitely not a fan of TT2's, but you'd do very well to get rid of those springs and that tacky rake...

How about the original Torq-Thrusts?  They're classic!

chargerboy69

How about a set of Radirs? They are old school and cool. Expensive, but cool. . . .

Three opinions:

#1:  Whatever you do, I think the rear wheels should be about 1" bigger diameter and about 1-2" wider than the fronts.  No matter whether it's 14x6" rims or 19x10" rims, this basic proportion seems to hold true.
The width issue can vary, but smaller wheels should have the width difference smaller and vice versa.  Keep the rear wheels only 1 inch wider on any wheel that's 15" diameter or smaller.

#2:  I swear that 16-inch wheels are the most overlooked size in the hobby.
Whenever anyone wants to go bigger than 15" wheels, they have to go all the way to 17-19" ones just to demonstrate in no uncertain terms they they went bigger than stock 15s.  But if you really step back & judge it purely by LOOKS and not just by the big-penis style points of saying you're rollin on 18's, then I think the 17-19" rims are too big in almost every case.  Musclecars like having tire sidewalls, particularly on the back end.
16s can work great with 16" fronts and a 17" rears for the modern look, or else be even more subtle with 15" fronts and then 16" rears.

#3:  If you are gonna go to the huge 18" and 19" rims, it rarely looks balanced without cutting the wheelwells out bigger to balance it.  (Sure it physically FITS. But does it look like it belongs there?  That's another story entirely.)
I'm not advocating cutting the car, I'm only saying that like it or not the huge rims and the stock wheelwells often don't look right together.  You can take that as a reason to cut the car, or as a reason not to run the huge rims at all.  Your choice.  But many of the famous magazine-quality musclecars making 18" rims look so good are actually cut in subtle ways for it.

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

OK maybe I was just selfishly thinking of putting those black bad boys on MY car. I can't figure out how to photoshop them on to have a look. P.S.  Just got a call from the stunt coordinater on the show thats renting my car. He's an old bud and had not seen or heard the car yet. He's full on, holy...sht after seeing it! It may not be the cleanest 68  out there... but it's mine!

Figures your son likes those, hehe,   I like the cragar five spokes, how about just getting smaller back tires?

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Hope you don't mind I made a photoshop with your car, how about these?   I have to say I like em.    :yesnod:

It's all subjective... there is a fine line between big and TOO big... find the combo that works best for you and enjoy. I run 17x9s up front with a 255/45/17 and 18x10s in the rear with a 285/40/18 - works just fine.

I was noticing the thing that really helps when you go with that look is if you have the front rim/wheel smaller than the back, it is when the oversized rim and low profile tire is the same in front and back like the son's photoshop pic that it just doesn't work for me, but yours looks a lot better,  :Twocents:

mike's charger has the perfect size wheels IMHO, I have seen it in person and it looks even better.  I personally would not like any bigger.  you could go a bit smaller.....i run 16's all around.  If you can get around a bit of a limited tire selection, then it's a nice compromise for guys who like old school and think big wheels are too "bling"

I like the looks of the cragers - slots - torque thrust and the 200 s.That is the first thing what was done to those cars when they were new .I love the old school look myself. The BIG WHEELS just look out of place on these old muscle cars. For the modern stuff - pro-stars 15s would look great.
Previously owned Daytona XX29L9B423239 - f8 - white int. - power windows.

I like the trim myself, makes the car look finished,..

...but yours looks a bit "down in front" so you might wanna test fit it, to see first of all, if ya' like it, and second, cranking the wheel, lock to lock to see that it clears, (two people required). Remember that "jounce" may bring the Stainless trim into contact with the rubber. That's one reason i like mine a bit stiffer with Super Stock Springs, HEMI T. Bars & a thicker Sway Bar, because I drive harder then the avarage bear   and I have lots of steep hills with severe departure angles (Seen the movie Bullett?   ) with really tight corners and abrupt curbs to contend with.
Some folks like and have more cushy factory stock set ups and drive more conservatively   on "nice" roads and others can get away with lowered cars, Ten wheelers' red '68 comes to mind, I wish I could get away with that look..  :yesnod:

Not a Charger but it gives you an idea.  They are 17 X 8s front and rear.

I know people trash newer big wheels but I think they look ok. If they are not too big 18-19 max. In fact I just like factory wheels (magnums, ralleys, and my personal favorite... steelies w/ dogdishes) or a newer design, 18-19 in wheel (like in your photo chop)
But old cragers and slots..... come on those thing belong in junk yards, I hate to see a nice charger with pitted crager 5 spokes or those cheep looking slots. just my 2 cents

I actually really liked my magnum 500's, but did the 11.75 swap so I had to move up and I figured what the hell.  I agree that too big looks silly.

Joe Rogan's cuda, and the cuda on the cover of this months hotrod look absolutely putrid to me.  Those are such beautiful cars and they would have looked just fine a bit lowered with 17/18 inchers.  they went way to big imho.

I have two 15x9 steelies I got out of a junkyard many years ago.  I would love to get an early 63 polara, fury, or later belv 2 and throw those babies on!

I would take off those aftermarket long rear shackles in the rear, that will lower the back some, you might need it a
little lower after taking them out and putting some stock units on.  Then I think it would look just fine, nothing wrong
with the wheels in my opinion, I personally like 15x8 and 15x10 magnums best myself, but if we all had the same wheel
tire combo it would be pretty boring  ;D ;D

Hi,
Just seen a set of Torq thrust 2's up for sale near me. But theyre 17 x 10's. I know theyd fit the back, how about the front though?

Paul G

I would consider 15"x8" with a 245/60 15 in front, and 15"x10" with a 295/50 15 in the back. You would need to specify a 5" or 5 1/2" backspace on the rear wheels when ordering. That keeps all the tire inside the wheel well. Fronts and rears are the same height with that set up. But that looks the best in my opinion. Someone on this forum has it. Do a search and you might find it.
