hi all I'm one of those guys that has always spent 3 hours on a sunday washing/drying/waxing /polishing my cars. after reading a thread on here (that i can't find now) about how we keep them out of the rain and then drown them every weekend ,I've bought an "original" California duster+dash duster but the instructions aren't all that clear ( dust gently)  so can someone tell me what I'm supposed to do with this thing,do i wash car first, do i use "detail" spray with it or just use it dry? how do you  guys detail your cars?  what brands of product do you use? thanks Phil

use it on the car dry  ,  then you can go back and touch up anything it didnt get with your favorite detail spray and a micro fiber cloth     :Twocents:

Like Stuart said, brush your car lightly, top to bottom, AFTER you have washed and detailed it. These brushes work best if you have kept the car clean and covered before hand.
If a car is filthy and dearly needs a bath DO NOT try and clean it off with this brush, you will scratch hell out of the paint and ruin the duster. Pardon if that sounded condescending.....not my intent.

I keep my car garaged and covered. I don't put the cover on unless its clean......ever. When I take the car out to a show I'll dust it off when I get there. I brush in the direction of the length of the car, shaking the brush out frequently. When I get back home I dust it again before putting the cover back on.
Might sound too picky but I can't afford another spendy paint job.

Finally, after I've dusted and covered my car after a drive or show, I blow out the duster with compressed air then back in the trunk it goes.  :Twocents:

+1 to both those.

It's to keep dust off the car, not to wash it if it's dirty at all.  Make sure you shake it out thoroughly after every few uses as well.

It is just for dust.  And I found it leaves a very light film on the car.
Try it on the windows, you'll see.
I use mine sparingly, only when dusty.
then I use detail spray with a micro fiber cloth and wipe down the entire car.

so its basically for removing road grim when you get where your going

It works as a sort of dust magnet, the cloth "fingers" have a kind of Endust like permanent saturation in the fibers. So some amount of grime is ok to build up, but you do want to keep it clean. The duster is not a cleaning tool, it's a magnet, and the user has to clean the magnet.

To clean use Woolite and cold water, then air dry. Mine has about 100,000 miles on it and it still works great.

Thanks 68x ... I didn't know that. Naturally they want you to buy another when you think it is dirty so they never explain how to clean it.
So you soak it in Woolite ...  :scratchchin:
