What if the uncle repeatedly molested you. You'd need the money for therapy.
Not that I have any experience with that....

First, I'd go into the local Dodge dealer and buy something with a Hemi. Then, of course, once the gas crunch hit, and the insurance was too much to pay for, I'd be like many who over-paid for the 2008 Challengers and be selling it for half what I paid or trading it in on a new VW Micro bus.

Sound familiar old timers?

74 pinto station wagon (dark green like the charger) but better gas mileage  :smilielol:

That's what my parents did after buying the dodge.  But they kept the dodge too because of a low ball offer for a trade in.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Great ideas guys.  I am sticking with Mopar though even considering what we know today.  To keep the miles off my Cuda I will buy a 68 Charger RT for the daily driver.

Bottom line is I envy you guys who grew up in the era when these were cheap and readily available.

If its 1969 , then I'm guessing that 5 -12 year old Letter cars are hovering around the "uncool" or not as desirable stage, so I would be taking my opportunity to get into a 300C, D ,F and a J but the max wedge stuff would get a look in too..and just one of the last 426 Chargers
Old Dog, Old Tricks.

Ghoste

Just a boring B5 four speed Hemi Charger.  Unless you get the crystal ball gift and then I'm in total agreement with Mytur.

TUFCAT

Lots of LSD and Hookers with GoGo boots!

Ghoste

That's probably what killed your crazy uncle.

I would want to go back and get a 64 max wedge Savoy white with the red top stripes. If I couldent I would have to go with a Hemi orange 69 hemi Roadrunner 4 speed dana car.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but back then, and without it, I really don't know how I would have spent it.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Everybody seems to be dreaming here. When in reality, many would have done what was done in history already. They might have bought that VERY expensive Hemi car [For 1969 Money anyway], but would have soon wrecked it, sold it, painted it some wild combination of flowers and peace symbols, etc.

Things that wouldn't be done today for all the money in the world.

Ghoste

Oh, I never said I wouldn't abuse it.  That's why I had two answers.

I bet in reality, many [Younger guys] right here wouldn't have even bought musclecars back then if they were alive. After all, in reality, it's the 'Un-obtanium' that causes fans from the younger gen. to appreciate old skool musclecars.

I say this because look at the younger guys right now and the Challenger. Not too many out of college can afford to plunk down $600/month payments for insurance and the like working at Mickey D's.
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Ghoste

I don't think many would have bought the Hemi's and Six Packs.  That's why they are so rare today but you did have more car purchasing power back then which is why so many young guys working at gas stations or packing groceries were able to swing a base Road Runner or Super Bee.
I suppose the modern equivalent would be if the crazy rich uncle left you 125k today?

Cooter

Kind of a double edged sword here. If I had a$125K today, as with many others, the LAST thing I'm thinking bout in a sh*t economy is some overpriced POS Mercedes for about 3 weeks of enjoyment.

Better get ALOT more for my money than an emblem that reads "SRT 8".

I'm thinking many today would pigeon hole most if not all of the money away in preparation for "Obamanation" to run it's course. But, then again, many today aren't that far sighted may just end up dropping their whole wad in this new age "Live for the moment, and let the gubment pay for the rest" attitude of many today.
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Ghoste

Fair enough.  Much more of a car culture then.

Lets face it, for most of us back then, it was just another car. To drive and enjoy, sure but basically to get us from A to B.  Then trading it in when something newer became available.  I mean lets face it, who knew these cars were going to become so sort after.

There are about 3 different modes of thinking on this thread:

#1 - buy the car that will make you the most money later on.

#2 - order a super-rare optioned car that you want the factory to have built.

#3 - buy the car you would personally want if old Mopars had no collectible value.

In 1969 #1 option is unlikely to have been on my mind. #2 would fit and I would load it up thinking that I may regret something. #3 is most likely considering the time and how we valued these cars then. I would have ordered a hemi coronet  RT.
I have one now but if it was one that I bought back then it would have been used hard and not what I have now. I feel like I missed out on driving the car I wanted the way I drove back in the day. :'( But that is what clones are for. Now all I need to do is make a clone and have at it.

X2 for most of those hippie types & protestors, anti establishment crowd, back then... most were into VW bugs or busses, or cheap throw away cars, they were not really into muscle cars  :Twocents:
