It's good to be aware of what the capabilities of a potential "bad guy" are, but to live in fear over it is pointless. Pretty soon people won't feel safe & they'll want their government to do something about it. Next thing you know is there will be some kind of new agency created, or a budget increase to an existing agency, or an amendment to the constitutional law, or they'll build some kind of insanely large data center in the middle of nowhere to record everybody's info from all over without permission or warrants. They'll track your phone records, your GPS, your EZ-Pass, your emails, or whatever they want in the name of "protecting us" from evil & you'll be paid a visit by a drone to see who's hanging out with you.

That's why I use tin cans & strings at my house to communicate.   :2thumbs:

In reality, how many of these " Be Careful about this" actually gives the crooks more ideas to do their dirty deeds?  It's nice to be aware of these possibilities, but you alert criminals to new ideas as well as alerting the gp.  Of course, criminals usually go back to jail after getting out because they usually tell how they got caught at whatever crime they committed, but then try another method at the same crimes.

While it's important, This is old news and has been active as long as there have been "smart" phones. Imagine every picture taken with a smart phone that has been posted on the net. Everytime I see one of these types of posts anywhere, Reminds me why I use one of these.  Verizon keeps sending me "upgrade" notices... Not gonna do it.

I am with ya, I also pass on the smart phones.  We all the scandals out the last month about government watching our every move, a smart phone is just another tool which makes it easier for them.

I'm not getting the upgrades either just for the simple fact I don't want a smartphone.  I don't need a piece of technology smarter than I am anyway.   I don't text either so that throws them for another loop.  The girls don't like it either.  My flip phone still works, so it works for me.

Yeah, Echelon has been getting a lot of press here due to Kim Dotcom and how that played out with his arrest over the mega site thing. Echelon is a 5 nation agreement for meta data " sharing" between U.S.A and its allies that sort of obliquely skirts the issue of the current administration monitoring its citizens emails and communications

http://whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/POLITICS/ECHELON/echelon.html

There was another program trialed 10 years earlier than Echelon called Thin Thread, google it

Edit: An interesting article in the paper this weekend on the NSA compelling Verizon to furnish all customers call records for a 3 month period from April to July .
Also in the article was more on NSA's PRISM programme which taps directly into the servers of 9 internet firms including google, Microsoft,fb & apple to search history and content ,file transfers and live chat

Where's my damn tinfoil hat again  :-\

Speaking of crooks and dirty deeds, think about what the gooberment has on you with cell phone tracking.

That's for sure.  I'm ready to hear what they have to say about that.  There was no reason what so ever why they need everyone's phone records.  One individuals' records maybe that was important for a case, but not everyone's.

Old Moparz

Tracking your calls isn't new with the government, it's been going on for a long time......Unless you have selective memories.

NSA Has Massive Database of Americans' Phone Calls

Updated 5/11/2006 10:38 AM ET    (Wow, just look at that date....lol)

By Leslie Cauley, USA TODAY

The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY.

The NSA program reaches into homes and businesses across the nation by amassing information about the calls of ordinary Americans — most of whom aren't suspected of any crime. This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity, sources said in separate interviews.
