Mine (1969) came with one from the factory and has it on there now.

They supposedly helped with Vapor locking issues back in the day... I use that port/nipple in the sending unit for a 1/4" #4 return fuel line from my bypass regulator from my Aeromotive fuel system....

I just finished restoring the system on my 72. ;D

not factory set up now , but been experementing with a metered return line from carburettor  back to the tank , so cooler fuel constantly runs through the carb ,

There were some bad, incorrectly made off shore versions out there a couple of years ago - a car won't run for long with those ones. The new ones are better but many have an orifice that is way larger than the (I believe) .060" called for by the factory.
