Well weather is not looking to promising but we will see.

If, I can work one her, besides cleaning out the filter I hope to get the old wiring harness off and get it to Bob. He is going to repair it by installing the fuse-able link.

Got my tools sorted and really do not care for the caddies I bought from Harbor Freight. I all so seem to missing quite a few sockets and a few box ends wrenches.  :shruggy: Time to dig around some more.

If you can make it Jim let me know.

While it was chilly today but I had at it with Miss Lumpy again.  ;D

First thing I did was go after the fuel filter.

Would have made David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan proud! I cleaned it out with engine cleaner and sat it aside to dry.

Next I got the engine electrical harnesses out. While I am not 100% happy with the tool caddy I bought from Harbor Freight it was sure nice to be able to lay my hand on the socket or box end wrench I wanted! Next I installed the new ballast resistor, old one was not burnt but Allen and I both saw it smoking. I sprayed some Liquid Wrench on the radiator drain petcock so I could drain it later.

I all so started the hot wire rewire so I have a on and off switch in the car. But first I decided to reinstalled the fuel filter. I screwed the filter together and had it snug, then I gave it that extra little twist.  :brickwall: Stripped one of the ends out in the filter it self, not the plastic ends. :P  While I was not going to drive her tonight I had planed on starting her. ::)

Dropped off the wiring harness at Bobs shop. He will have it repaired next week with the correct fusible link. Projected cost is $10 too $15 dollars so that works for me! :D Stopped by Advances and pick up a new see through filter, $11.50 down the drain for no good reason!  :shruggy:

Has anyone here bought there fuel line from Mancini Racing? I asked about it in the engine forum and CDR said it is prebent? For $60.00 that seems pretty worthwhile :scratchchin:

Hopefully next week I will be doing another Neighbor Power Tour!  :boogie: :drive: :boogie:

Slowly but surely I keep plugging away.

I did get a new filter, just need to install it. That will take a whole 5 minutes. I hae all so tested the 9 year old Antifreeze and would you believe it is still good to -40 degrees? Boy I must have bought the good stuff!  :coolgleamA:

Went to Bob's last week to see if the wiring harness was done. Tim exampled the cannon plug was melted and the spade would not come out? I played with it a little at the shop and it had 1/8 inches of play. did not seem frozen to me.  :scratchchin:

By the way, keyboard is a little cleaner than it looks!

Cut off part of the spade connector (part that pop's out) and mounted the cannon plug in my bench vise. Played with it and got a 1/4 inch of play yet still would not come out. :scratchchin: Got some small jewelry / model train screw driver out and started tapping them in a long the side of the spade. It took about 45 minutes of watching NCIS on the computer and drinking Cam 2  to come out, but it is out!

Bryan (A 383 Wing) is sending 12 spade connectors, thank you Bryan!  To be on the safe side, first I am going to wire in a inline glass fuse and see what happens. Then if that goes OK I will install the proper wiring.

Yea, I work slow theses days, but the fire is still lite!

I thought anti freeze looses its effectiveness after a while?

That is just propaganda that was started by the people that make and sell anti freeze.  Some of the newer types of anti freeze has an additive that will lose its effectiveness toward corrosion and will start eating aluminum engine parts, which is why I change everything I have back to the old green stuff. Back here a few years ago, Cummins engines actually changed from the red/orange antifreeze to the same anti freeze that John Deere uses which is a green antifreeze that has a lot of additives in it to stop corrosion.

I must admit I don't change mine as often as what the manufacturers say to, but even by my standers 9 years is pushing it!  :eek2:

I know what I will be doing Thanks Giving! Fixing my wiring harness!  :2thumbs: I was stunned the package of Spades are all ready here! All the way from the west coast no less. Old A 383 Wing must have some pull at the Postal Services!  :2thumbs:

Yeah, we got all Cummings engines (well 1 Cat) in all the truck were I work. Most with the red/orange anti-freeze, but a lot of the older trucks still run the green stuff.

Turkey Day was a bust.  :shruggy: Daughter came over early and we ate at 12:30 PM. After that I was done for the rest of the day. Heck I did not even have a single Cam 2! My wife does not understand it call Thanks Giving Dinner. At our house it is Thanks Giving Lunch?

One of the other things that stopped me from playing with Miss Lumpy is the slow oil leak I caused when I stripped out the drain plug! :brickwall: While it is a slow leak, over the course of time I have added say 4 quarts to the engine. It dawned on me Thanks Giving Day that I had not added any more zinc additive to the oil!  :slap: So to be on the safe side I have not started her back up.

Got my make shift Fuse-able link done.

This will be used till I am sure the Electrical Demon is gone. Then I will install a correct one. Only thing left to do on the harness is replaces one of the female connectors that goes to the single wire prong on the Ballast Resistor. I should have that done yet tonight.  :D

I am off Monday and Tuesday, I hope to have her wired up Monday. Temp will be low 50's with a 20% chances of rain. So maybe I will luck out. I all so picked up to bottles of STP oil additive with Zinc.

Smoke them if you got them (tires that is) Cuda Ken

As normal did not get as much done as I would have liked, but I did find sometime for her.

Bought another 2 gallons of gas and added 6oz of fuel stabilizer to make sure the gas that is in the tank does not get any worse than it is. Installed the new fuel filter and that went off with out a hitch. All so added the STP additive with zinc in it. Cold that stuff pours like thick honey, took 3 minutes or so.

Tried to crank her over, nothing? I had the battery charger on her while I was adding the gas and changing the filter? Hooked the charger back up and she turned over just like that and fired. Unhooked the charger and tried starting again and she hit just like that again.   :2thumbs:

Let her warm up and she smoked some and the exhaust still stinks of old gas. Back her down the drive way and placed her in neutral so I could check the ATF, just a tad lower than a pint. Added some ATF and she stopped smoking and exhaust did not have the rotten gas smell.

If you might remember I was a little worried about a ticking sound after she warmed from the left side? That ticking is now gone, one of the things the STP Treatment states it stops is "Helps quite noisy valves and lifters. I must say the stuff works"

When I first started her I was amazed how fast the see through gas filter turned orange from rust. While I had her half way in the street checking the ATF and thinking about doing the Neighbor Power Tour, she died.  :shruggy: Well the gas filter was Looking Like The Bottom Of A Fish Bowel Again
so I pulled it apart and cleaned.

After a few cranks she hit and I made it back up into the normal parking spot. Turned her off and hooked the charger back up to the battery on a 2 amp charge for a half hour. Got my Cam 2 cool and went back out to start Miss Lumpy back up. See though gas filter again looked Like The Bottom Of A Fish Bowel but she started.

Sooner or later I will have all the foul gas and rust out of the system.

I wouldnt bet on it.  I tried that for a couple months with my daughters Dart.  Finaly got a new tank.  After drying out the old one I had about 1/8 tank of rust.  Can any one donate a old gas tank to Ken minus the rust?

the only extra tank I got here is for an "A" body...otherwise I would

On the rust in the tank, guess we will see Allen. When I can afford it I do plan on getting new gas lines. I plan on starting her once a week depending on the weather.

I would put a fuel filter before the pump, that way it would protect the pump as well

garner7555

Raise the car up on stands and try to keep the rear of the car higher than the front. Remove the input line from the pump and put a cheap filter on the end of the line, then drain it into a clean container.  Continue to pour gas back into tank and filter the gas into clean container. Repeat this process until things start to clear up. If it doesn't flow well then you can take a rag and wrap it around an air blower and stick it in the filler hole to slightly pressurize the tank. Hope this helps.

Been there as well.   New tank is the answer.

Aero, answer is more money and I don't see that happening for sometime.

Bryan, I was just thinking about that. Will be a pain to clean out, but replacing the fuel pump is not easy either.  :scratchchin:

Garner, I have been thinking along that line my self.

Main thing, I am still thinking about her.
