I'm in high school and I've got a '68, but never take a chance of it being around school.

dodgecharger-fan

I had my 73 while I was in high school. Even with a /6 I was popular with the girls. Just never pop the hood. :)

73ChargerSE

I've got my '73 now, and I'm in high school.  The hell of it is, it's not too attractive because it breaks down  :icon_smile_blackeye:.  Soon I'll be getting a '69.  Just another car for everyone to make fun of.

1970 Charger 500

My first car was a '70 Charger 500 that I drove throughout high school ('78-'81). O0

It was white with a black vinyl top, charcoal interior, 318, buckets w/console license plate # DHY-927!!!
My mom sold it for $500, because it had an oil leak, to a handicapped man who took it to California. :bawling:

When I turned 40, I had to turn 17 again. Went looking specifically for a '70 500 with a 318 trying to duplicate the old car as much as possible.
I passed on a '70 R/T without the original 440 (but kind of knew where it was) for $8,500!
Bought this one on eBay for $8,600.
I got my '70 500 with MUCH MORE than I had hoped for!!
And now I just turned 19 (again) in February.

I got my first charger back in 1982. Basically when I hit 9th grade, I had a 68' 318 charger. Not old enough to drive yet, but that was just the beginning. Before I got out of high school, I had about 9 or 10 chargers. All second gen style. I worked two jobs after school and durring the summers. I bought all my cars that I drove. My dad was a cop then, so I had to earn my way around the house hold. Also, speeding tickets weren't an opption, thats another story.........I'm still in contact with my high school shop teacher, he was a mopar guy as well, I held the record for the fastest car in that 4 years also, I drag raced a 68' I had back then at the race track here and it ran low 11's high 12's plus I street drove it.

You guys all suck! J/K You all had beautiful Chargers in highschool, and I had a 92 Buick Roadmaster! :eyes:  I loved my car but I would have loved more to have a charger. There was a guy that reminded me of Wooderson From Dazed and Confused that had a rusty 74 Charger without a hood (because the bolt on the air cleaner was too long :eyes:) and everyone thought he was the coolest kid in school. He got more tail than wanyone I knew.

My mechanic told me, "I couldn't fix your brakes, but don't worry I made your horn louder."

I drove my 73 SE all the time to high school, and work, and nights out, and...... I still have it today.

I still have mine from when I was in high school, it was one of the top 3 fastest cars on campus. Here it is today in my garage, its going to the bodyshop next month. I've started stripping her down, but its taking me a while as I am recovering from a bad motorcyle accident. Hopefully she should be done by the fall.

At my H.S. in 79-82 if you were a Mopar guy you were considered to be a dark sinister character. An outlaw. The guys respected you and the women stayed away but were intrigued a little too.You usually had the fast car but all the girls would say that " it's old and ugly. Why don't you get a new Camaro or Trans Am?" and I would say"I'm not a wuss jock and don't want to go slower."  :yesnod:

I had a 73 Ranchero with a swapped in 351 Boss in high school.  I got my 71 Challenger 340 'vert my senior year but I don't recall driving it to school.  Seems to me I didn't drive it until very shortly after I graduated.  I didn't get my first Charger until I had been out of school for about two years.  I sure looked at a lot of them during those days though.  Just never found the "one" for a while I guess.

i did have my 74 for about 3 months of my sr year (spring 91). it was a bondo bucket but had really shiny dark blue metallic paint, and the white top looked pretty good. it wasnt even contested as the fastest car in school. however a buddy had a mazda (626?) that was reportedly pretty snappy (i never rode in it lol) and another friend had a ranchero with a beefy 351. i thought the ranchero might be quicker but the front end was so bad he wouldnt run em. he traded it in on a 5.0 mustang the week we graduated.

I wanted nothing more than to have a Charger in High School. I ended up with a rusty '69 Barracuda, which I made do with. This was in 1978, and I just turned 16.
My best friend at the time, Lynn Smith (a guy) was the son of the owner of the local (and only) general store in town. Due to over-generous parents, he had a more-than generous "allowance". This permitted a lot of purchasing power, which went towards copious amounts of cigarettes (legal or otherwise), beer (from the bootlegger) and the "real" Coke.
Lynn was a wheeler-dealer by nature, no doubt influened by his father, who was THE consumant businessman.
One fine fall day, we found out about a '69 Charger for sale in a trailer park not far from town, and set out to find it. I believe they call it "playing hookey".
It was being flogged by the local hotshoe -"Crazy" Larry Harvey, who acheived his nickname as a result of a head injury sustained in a rather nasty car accident, which brought about the demise of one of his school-mates, and his slide into a constant alcoholic state.
Larry had the tendancy to drive the balls off of anything he got into, and demonstrated this talent to Lynn and I when we showed up to check the car out. It carried a built 440/fourspeed combination, and a 4:10 Dana 60, which were all the ingrediants required to get sideways at any and all opportunities.
So, after an impressive demonstration, Lynn offered Larry the remains of a 1977 Pontiac Grand-Am 400 in a straight across trade. This car had been in a wreck, which demolished the entire passenger side, which is how Lynn came to buy it for $400.
Larry was driving a particularliy nice 1971 Bonnyville convertible (his shaggin wagon), which needed an engine, so the deal was struck.
From that time forward, we spent ALL of our time emulating the Duke boys on the back roads of our hamlet, and ruining what was left of our reputations and/or academic potential...
We even managed to jump the car off the ground several times by driving up a dirt road which joined the highway at an accute angle.
After about two years of trashing the life out of it, he sold the car to a fellow that took it to Detroit.
Needless to say, I found and bought my Charger in tribute to those absolutely nutty days of High School.

Back in 79-83 when I was in HS I drove a late 70's Simon & Simon Power Wagon, I sure miss that truck. One of my buddys drove a 64 Chevelle SS which he got by trading a 74 Vega & a cool stereo for (he got the best of the deal) My other firend, who is now my bro in law drove a very immaculate white 65 Chevelle (his folks bought it new) man what a clean car, he still has it today...I kind of lived in a Chevy town I guess, your typical assortment of late 60's Camaros & early 70's Novas (where did those Novas all go?) the only Mopars I remember at school was a red 71 Cuda, a 62 Dart (with a 4 sp) & a 73 Charger driven by a history teacher...Boonie bashin in the P-Dub was a blast though...pulled a few Chevys out of the mud...

After I joined the Air Force I spent most all my years over seas, sold all my cars and forgot all about MOPARS...till I found my '70 abandoned in 2002 Then I was reinfected with the MOPAR virus. But I was a real addict as a teenager, here's a few more (did a lot of horse trading)

Which I traded for a '73 440 Road Runner (Old girlfriend wasn't part of the deal)

Arigmaster

I never owned a Charger till 2001. Here I am in 2010 and don't own one now.

In High school I went through six Dusters and Demons ('70 and '71's) in a two year period. Of those, I made one special '70 Duster with tubed front end and it had a 383 and a 727 trans from a 68 Polara which my Sister was nice enough to park into a tree.

I went through the driver Dusters and Demons like Bic lighters back then because they were cheap and easy to get. Had I known then what I know now!

Reading threads such as this just prove over and over the deep love for a Charger owner.  I've had and loved many cars for many years, but nothing is like the love for my 69.  I wanted one since 69, and I still just stand there and stare at it in designer awe.  :coolgleamA:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Here is a pic of my first car....I got it from a grove of trees for 200.00. Horses had eaten all the paint off the edges and a coon had taken up residence inside, but my Dad and I made it into a real nice driver. I drove the heck out of it for almost 20 years. I repainted it 5 times during that time too.
