The things are starting to swarm again, I think they are attracted near my house by the streetlight. I'm looking at "do it yourself" treatments, one is "fipronil" in a product called Dominion 2L. It's effective against "Dry wood termites" like are trying to attack my home.
Anyone here won any battles against these nasty critters?  :scratchchin:

OMG! What a nightmare. I hope you get on top of it. That's the last thing you need.

I've been in florida now for 11 years. The house I bought had termites when I bought it. It was found during the inspection and was tented before I moved in. Then 5 years later they were swarming in my second floor again and I had to have it tented again in 07. Last week we had a few swarming in the first floor. So I guess we will be tenting it again.

My online research (So far...) has found tent fumigating is effective at killing but offers no "protection". This stuff protects after spray/injecting treating,

This is the agent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fipronil
These things creep me out, I'll be replacing paneling in the effected areas and treating inside the walls and the entire outside also. (What fun... :eek2:

I haven't had a subterranean termite issue in the house but did find them in the yard at the decaying grape vine fence. They are easy to kill dump chemicals in the ground. The dry wood ones need the tenting done since they live in the wood they destroy and never have to go any where. Subterranean ones have to return to the ground for water.

To help prevent drywood termites caulk is a good friend. Try and caulk any and every crack at all windows and where windows casings meet the walls. I caulked the seems of the boards that make up the pillars that hold my porch roof up. Also keep all wood painted. My houses main issue is they put vinyl siding on my house and it needed a paint job when they did it. But who paints the house to put siding on? If you painted it you don't need siding.
