Needed to cut some gear out of the rear so I went with L-60 tires. Stock was around 2200 RPM @55 MPH, 2750 RPM @70 MPH...
Now, is around 2300 RPM @70MPH...

Those look great Cooterman! Are they Michelins?
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

Nah, just some old used BFG's my son cannot afford to buy and put on his '66. They need 15X8" with 5 1/2" backspacing, so I will be on the lookout for a set of Weld Draglites.

They look good on there. My friend who did most of the paint and body restoration on my Charger had some older L60-15 dirt-track tires that are brand new sitting around his shop so he put them on my wheels and on the back of the Charger while he worked on it. The big footprint looked great and he encouraged me to just take the tires and use them but, without a D.O.T. stamp, I decided not to do it.  With the original wheels at 6" wide, the tires had quite a bit of rounding of the sidewalls too. He just wanted me to use them up with with nice burnouts! Who knows, I might still take him up on them.

Anyway, get yourself some of those Weld wheels and your "Toy" truck will look awesome!

Well, the MAIN reason for doing this other than looks, was fuel mileage. While it got decent MPG, it could be better.
Cruises well now @ 70 MPH and that's where most of this little commuters miles are driven.
Don't really like the "huge" effect it has, but whaddya gonna do right?

Next is some "Hemi" emblems. :D

I did. Many Toyota's are built right here in the USA tufpuss. Not too many 'American' cars that will outlast a Good ol Toyota that is still built here. My 1999 DODGE (NOT just RAM- Wait Are RAM trucks still built in the US? I know My DODGE wasn't) 2500 was Ahem, built in Mexico. Oh well, at least when I got rearended, it didn't mean a whole lot with my 'Foreign' Truck.

Oh and the tops of this little trucks Combustion chambers are closer to a true HEMI than the "Hemi" from Mercedes, Err, Mopar, Err Fiat, Err. I mean 'American' built Hemi's.

With minor mods....They are a great engine just needs a few special parts to really go teh distance. Even though I hear 300+k all day long on the factory build. So who knows? :shruggy:

Cooter

Oh no, they can be killed just like any other engine, but as long as you don't let the T-chain in the 22R-22RE engines slap a hole through the cover and dump coolant in the engine (Think METAL backed guides), then it is a pretty bulletproof engine.

The Taco's(Tacomas) have a fairly good engine with the 2.7 4Cyl. as well I do not like the 3.0 liter V6 however. They tend to be a little more junky IMO.
Too hard to maintain (think removing the damn intake to do valve cover gaskets/plugs).
My little beater has over 300K on it now (304K miles). LOVE it. I really had no idea how weak that little Super-ru was unti I got this truck. Thinking bout some Weld Draglites and some big and littles. I just stuckthose Police rallye's on there as that's all I had right now.

We have 2 "Import" factories here in Indiana, We have a massive Toyota plant in Princeton, Indiana and also have a new Honda plant as well. It helped our state out immensely!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

In general, Toyota's and Honda's go for a looooooong long time.

You forgot the scobby plant is in indiana also. Talk about tough cars, Igot my stepdaughter a 1995 impreza and with almost 200k on it she just drove back from college in vermont to indiana without any problems or me worringing if the car could do it.

For max MPG over inflate them just a little. Maybe to the max sidewall pressure. A tall skinny tire is best for MPG. Less rolling resistance.

You know, some people just cant get over the name on the side of a vehicle. Me included sometimes. It is psychological more than anything. I love my Ram SRT10, but it is an import, Mexico. I spent 31 years making American steel right in northwest Indiana that went to cars made right in central Indiana, but the cars had Subaru written on the side. Go figure, what is American anymore?
1972 Charger Topper Special, 360ci, 46RH OD trans, 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.91 gear, 14.93@92 mph.
1973 Charger Rallye, 4 speed, muscle rat. Whatever engine right now?

Actually Paul, that was my thinking as well, but when I tried to inflate them to say 35 PSI, the truck with no weight in the back shook horribly. Bouncy kinda.
Aired 'em down to like 29 PSI and it doesn't shake as bad now. Plus, with only 7" wheels (Really needs 8" wheels), I fear i may be wearing out the center of the tread instead of even wear. But! They certainly helped out as MPG is back up to 29 now.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Another problem with airing up rear tires on a light pickup truck is you will get extensive wear in the center of the tire. Been fighting that on my full size for years until I aired the tires down to like 26-28. No more problems.
