Can you get 100 octane or higher from the pump in your town?

I have been able to get 100, 104 and 110 leaded in 5 gallon cans at the local NAPA stores, but at $60, it is pretty expensive. I thought that at the pump, race fuel usually costs almost double the price of regular unleaded. What have you found?

1974dodgecharger

here in scottsdale, AZ where they have weekly car shows theres a gas station in the parking lot that sells race fuel I think 110 for 10 dollars/gallon or was it 101 for 8 dollars something like that.

Ghoste

I can get 94 but a one hour drive to Detroit and the prospects open up considerably.

Greg, check out this site/blog that helps track locations and prices in California. http://www.davebarton.com/Unleaded_Racing_Fuel_in_SoCal

It's a sloppy site, and you have to scroll way down the page to get to Northern California. And it's usually out dated info. But it may be useful for your needs.

CAM 2 Is like $8-$9/gal (Which is like what? 110 Octane? The "purple" fuel.

While 100 Octane "AVGAS" is like $6.35/gal...

Thanks, 68x426. I did find that site after I posted. I was hoping to see a few that I didn't know about but I did not.

We're getting more and more stations around here that carry the non-ethanol stuff but anything over 92 octane is real hard to find other than the pre-packaged stuff you mentioned.

Just at the local airport. 100 low lead. And being that there is no road tax added it has to be put in a gas can. Or an airplane.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Avgas at the airport and racing fuel at the race track. :2thumbs:  I think Napa used to have it until the building burnt to the ground.

I can get 93  for my Challenger at Walmart of all places. Unfortunately I'm in Iowa so it has alcohol in it.

We have a fuel dealer who sell Sunoco race fuel 110 octane at $10. per gallon.  About 6-7 miles away.
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

Nothing high octane at the pump around here (southern Indiana) any more. Station that had Turbo Blue at the pump closed 10 years ago. Another station way on the other side of town had 101 Renegade at the pump for a while. That's been over five years ago since I last got any. I think I paid about 4 bucks a gallon. Man how times have changed. Now that same station sells Sunoco 110 leaded in a five gallon pail for $48 plus 7% sales tax ($10.27/gallon).

At least the good stuff can still be had.  But it sure is an expensive trip.

I was suprized to see a lone  "racing fuel" pump in columbus, oh. I think it was like 110 or near that.
Then I realized I was right by the fairgrounds that has held the goodguys rod & custom show for like 15 years.

Baldwinvette77

highest i can get is 94 around the corner from my house, honestly, i cant tell the difference from 91  :shruggy:

Hamilton Rd just south of I-70. There is a Valero and Sunoco. Both used to have race fuel at the pump.

Just did a Google Maps Street view and the Valero still has a racing fuel sign advertising Cam2, VP and Turbo Blue.  :2thumbs: A virtual smorgasbord of race fuel.  :drool5:

Wish we had a place like that here in Evansville, IN. :'(

Ghoste and I use to stay near there for Mopar Nats until the neighborhood when to sh!t. Pretty creepy last time we stayed over there.

The best I can do here is 98 at the pump. So that's what I use.
I've tried to get "AVGAS" (not sold at petrol stations) but they won't sell it to me. Seems you need a pilot's licence.

Of course, looking at the price for regular unleaded, I'm guessing the street view is a few years old (2009)....

Have you tried just getting a gas can full of fuel?  My airport won't let anyone fill up their cars, but they'll sell it to you in a can.

Just checked it out. At $4.00 a litre, I think I'll pass. The 98 will do just fine.

It used to be the same here, they told me it was a road tax issue.  If it goes in your street car they knowingly evaded highway taxes with you, if it goes in a can then for all they know its going in your lawnmower.  Around here though now the airport wont sell it in anything other than an aircraft.

There are a few stations around here that have 102? I think, but the standard mix available is 91 or 95.
Back when I had an old flatbottom race boat, I used to buy a 44gal drum of 110 octane for $130 or so from the Mobil depot down by the wharves in town. They made you sign a declaration before you uplifted it that it would not be used on the road. This was when unleaded gas had been phased out by the govt. I would cant off 60L and sell the rest to a mate for his Ducati Desmo
There's only one non franchise station down by Pukekohe racetrack that has a race fuel Bowser , again they will not let you pump it into a car to be used on a public road, it has to go into a container. Backwards eh

I seem to remember hearing that AV gas has a higher oxygen content and could cause a lean condition.  Yes/No anyone?        :shruggy:
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

69_500

I have a buddy who runs nothing but avgas in all his old cars. He claims it has a storage life of like ten years. He has a 1000 gallon storage tank full of it. Every once in a while I swing over and buy some off of him.

squeakfinder

I haven't had to use the AVGAS 100 low lead in awhile. Used to have a knocking/pinging problem that finely went away. Evan then, I'd just stick a couple gallons in with a tank of super and it would take care of the problem.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Fred

All my pinging problems are sorted out too so I don't need it either. The 98 octane is just fine and much more affordable.

I've been running 100 Octane for 2 seasons now... $9.49/Gallon at my local Sunoco station.. But, after burning through $150 in fuel LAST WEEK going to two shows, I decided to go back to 94.... I'll miss the smell

ws23rt

What ever happened to water injection? :shruggy: I remember that as being an opportunity for some to cut down on ping. And the next step was with the right carb you could run water only.

Kern Dog

I have read up on the Methanol/water injection kits. I can't go with any type of spacer under the carb though. The air cleaner sits within 1/4" of the hood as it sits.

4cruzin

I have 110 Turbo Blue 4 miles west for almost $9.00 a gallon and then 6 miles to the east I have ethanol free 91 octane gas which is good for the boats and jet ski's.   :2thumbs:  Mid Michigan . . . .
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

Ghoste

No one here buying it by the drum then by the look of it.

Kern Dog

Today I called the airport in Cameron Park CA. They sell 100 octane leaded on site. You need to pay by credit/debit card though. I was so excited, I didn't even ask the price!
