Harmonic Balancer Q for a 68 440 HP2

Hi Guys, My current balancer has shifted and its time to look for a new one
Motor is a 68 440 HP2, with a bit of a cam ( unknown spec ), stock heads, torker 440 manifold , 2'' Dougs Headers and a 750 Holley. I am assuming ( at this stage without removing it ) it will be
Chrysler part # 2658457       7 1/4'' dia x 7/8'' wide

I will probably fit new cam & Ali heads in the next couple of years to wake it up a bit and wanted some advice on what would be the good choice for a balancer

There's a few on here, non stock appearance does'nt concern me, would an OEM type one be fine with changing out the cam and heads in the future?

Probably would go for this one though...

Also 2nd Q, what difference does the dia of the balancer make to the performance or operation as the sizes go from 6.610 up to 7.250.

Or suggestions for other suppliers

Thanks, Bob

I can't answer your question as well as others might but as always I have an opinion. The oem should be fine. I like the technological  effort that was spent on this issue and the fluid type seems like a neat solution to overcome the possible failure of the rubber isolator that allows for shifting. However the cost of the fluid type chokes me up a bit. I have not heard that they are better in a way that has significant value compared to the the oem. As for the dia. difference if everything clears ok no problem. The weight of the dampener is more relevent than the dia. The issue is inertia and for an engine this size it seems to trivial.

I tend to like the street type you are looking at.
What I never liked in a situation like this is I would most likely never be able to tell the difference when all is said and done.

Ok, thanks for the opinion. The stock rubber one took nearly 45 years to fail so the replacement should see me out  cheers

looking to replace mine soon  ,  been trying to decide too ,  have heard some need shims to lign up the crank shaft pulley to the rest  :shruggy:   also  have to elongate one of the bolt holes in your pulley with some types ,  year dependent  , i know one hole is odd on a 69
also heard read  fluid dampners are not a good idea , on some engine builds or what your engine is being used for ,  forget why now , or how true it is , think it was something about the fluid & harmonics at a continuous given rpm ,    :shruggy:
like i say dont quote me on this , never found any other info since  :shruggy: :popcrn:

I am where you are on this. If there is good info about it I would like to hear. It is my need to know how things work.
A bit aside of this my favorite things are like the microwave filters I saw advertised for your cell phone. They would keep your brain from cooking while on the phone. And when the filters got full you could buy new ones for $19.95.  (this was not comedy it was a legit add on the radio). ::)
