Fuel pump for a 440 with Carter AVS

Did the first start of my car (-68 Charger R/T) with a freshly rebuilt Carter AVS 4429S. Also got a new set of fuel lines and a vapor separator. Only thing which is not factory is the fuel pump. The angle between in / out is wrong so the steel fuel line from pump to vapor separator does not line up as it supposed to.

The car did not run good (rich) but this was just the first start. Will work on it next week. But what about my fuel pump? Can anyone identify what I have there? On one side it says 12 0 - 2154. The "12" is larger and a bit separated from "0 - 2154".  On the other side it just says "MADE IN CANADA".

Thinking about getting me a correct pump, what do you guys use for a factory setup? What is the acceptable fuel pressure for the AVS carb, anyone know? Reason for asking is that I suspect that the carb gets flooded, but I'm not sure on that yet.

not sure if the fuel pump specs are in the FSM  , although seem to remember something about fuel pressure , with out checking , would guess a carter AVS is pretty much like a edelbrock thunder avs , fuel pressure sensitive & float needles dont like anything over 6 psi
not got my FSM here right now , its in the work shop , will check later  :yesnod:

in the 69  factory service manual  ( FSM )  :yesnod:  would of thought 68 would of been the same  :scratchchin: :shruggy: :popcrn:

they list 3 pumps for the  440  & their part numbers in the FSM

pump one  -----    carter MS4589S  for the 383 & 440 , 3 1/2 - 5 psi

pump two -----   airtex   RD267A     for the 383 & 440 , 3 1/2 - 5 psi

pump three  -----   carter MS4434S  for the 440 high performance (hp) ,  6 -7 1/2 psi

supprised at the 7 1/2 psi of the hp pump ,  look inside a carter AVS & a edelbrock thunder avs & the  floats &  needles look the same  yet edlebrock calls for a maximum pressure of 6 psi
:shruggy:

Tan top, thanks for the info. I have ordered a 4434S, will get it on the car next week. Hopefully I won't flood the carb. I trust the FSM.  :P

My problems with the motor running rich is solved after spending a couple of hours adjusting the AVS. The motor runs really good now. Fires right up, cold or warm does not matter. Throttle response is perfect and the idle is rock stable. I only have one issue with the choke rod but I have started a new thread about that.
