Howdy 'all, This is my '72 Rallye, picked it up from a tow yard as a basket case, interior was completely gutted 'cept for a drivers seat, came with a '70 440HP2,727 trans, and a rear end that clunked when hitting 2nd gear.... (neutral drops???)  with a little help from the local mopar fanatics, all the interior parts were "donated" and the rest was a rotisserie resto done by me, This bein my first mopar, I had alot to learn as to bein part specific, but thanks to the local fanatics, every nut, bolt, screw, clip, and otherwise, from headlite to tailite is correct. Everything else was replaced with NOS, or spiffed up origional. It took about 6000.00$ and 8 months to complete,Boy that stuff from Year One is Expensive, but the local auto yards were thin on charger parts. But, I'm proud to say ,she took a 1st. place in B-Body Modified at the annual Mopar Spring Round-up in Carnation,WA.(2nd from left)in pic, This is my Daily driver, gas mileage is 4-18 mpg, ( changed out the gears and put in 2.76 ) at 60mph, I'm tachin around 1800rpm with about 4 inches of gas pedal left, from this point, acceleration is ballistic, GOD, I LOVE MY MOPAR....  Robert C. LOL, Howdy Charger Guy, No  0$ missin, a simple but tedious resto as the Mopar fanatics would always point out discrepancies... My pics are too large to post,I'm tryin to reduce them now.

Thanks Stroker, I've found that Mopar Fans/owners are waaay less snobbish than the ...others, My older brother is a chev guy and boy does he ride the Mopar badge, he owns a 70 SS chevelle, 23,000 origional miles BUT as I point out to him, NO TROPHY...LOL...   :icon_smile_big:

Nice choice of a Charger. imo the 72 Rallye was the last of the best cars to own.  I'd lose the rims and find some Cragars, Rallyes or 500's. :Twocents:

JB400

Looks good.  Any plans on installing a front spoiler? :2thumbs:

Thanks 'all, I know, the black rims.....  :eek2: gag, but at the time, it was a necessary evil, as my country roads were far more travelled than maintained, as for the front spoiler, I could never get one from YearOne that was worth a poop,( chipped, cracked, or not straight....) the car right now is in Belfair,WA. and will be transported to me here in South San Francisco shortly,(within a week) then i'll take care of the above noted deficiences. Thank-you all, I'll soon post updated pics of the rest of the car.... Robert

Rather than start a new thread,I'd just ask ??? on this subject here..... I noticed the 2 different "fresh air hoods " available for the 72 Rallye,( Louvre or flapper door,) while i'm not fender tag specific to have either kinda kicks the cool gauge a notch, can someone esplain the "correct" option,   Thanks   mpb

Chargerguy74

The Ram Charger hood (N96) "flapper" style would be correct for 72. The louvers were a 71 R/T thing.

Back in 72, I had a chevy Nova Rallye, great car, some kind of special order car, cragers were the rims to have back in 72 also...i thought the karma would be good , to stick with a Rallye....   :yesnod:

Welcome to the forum!  It's always nice to see another '72 Rallye. By chance is it an original 440 car?

Hi Archie, Thanks for the welcome, according to the fender tag(s), it's a (Rallye) 340 4barrel,727,bucket seats, vynal top,(I'm not sure if G9 means medium green?) I bought the car from a tow yard in Vallejo,Ca. but the car was from Arizona, as mentioned, it was a basket case, street racer??,interior gutted, but with a freshly built "70 440HP2,and trans. Personnaly,I've been a chevy guy,but this beast caught my eye and I couldn't resist. No more than 5 minutes after I got her home were the local Moparites knockin on my door wanting to check her out, keep in mind, I never new any of these guys, but the camaraderie of these fanatics really overwhelmed me, and I've been hooked ever since....  And yes, it is nice to see another 72 Rallye , you've got a beauty there, if ya keep her under 100mph, the bugs are easier to hose off... cheers my friend

Good lookin' car. :2thumbs:

I love the '72 Rallyes :drool5:

I even like the black wheels you have on it. :coolgleamA:

mopartybob

Thanks Daytona  when I was rebuilding the car,the choice of rims was just as important to me as was the rest of the resto, and it was a toss-up between those and cragerSS's, I chose those due to the fact that I was moving to WA. state with the intent of switchin to the cragers, but the roads and weather were truly kaka... and I"da hated to see my nice, new, shiny cragers get hosed everytime I went check the mail....   ::)

I've done some searching and couldn't find any links for the N96 fresh air assy. as a package, I did find that even with the power bulge hood, there were some differences in the framework that would/would not allow this to be installed w/o some major metal massaging, can someone please clarify, thanks... Robert

Hi Robert

I'll ad my two cents. With the fiberglass hood I'd call it a no-go, because of the lack of structure to hold the door actuator...I guess you could rig somthing up, but it would look cheesy. I originally thought the same for a standard bulge hood, but after I bought my N96 and then relooked at my bulge hood, their pretty much the same...might need to drill holes for the hoses.

The last problem for making an N96 out of a standard power bulge is the lip where the door sits when its closed, that would be a huge undertaking.  I'm sure there's a way to make it work, but again, there's the cheesy factor. It took me 5 years to find mine, but they are available from time to time. I do know where 2 are for $1800 each stripped

Here you can see that lip

mopartybob

Thanks AK, in this case i'll just stick with fender tag specific....lol.... I'd definitely have a burr under my saddle if my tags called for it,as for now, i'll keep it on my wish list, and thanks for the info. 5 yrs huh???? dahmit... like trying to find an after dinner mint in Somalia....  :o
