Ben Orr passed away a few years ago. Without Ocasek, who just had a solo release last summer, and Orr, this isn't the Cars.

I saw the Cars back in 1980. One of the worst shows I have ever seen. Too bad, I like their stuff. Live was a huge disappointment.

The Cars were a great studio band, TERRIBLE live band.  Its not that they couldn't play live (they could), they were just BOOOOORING.  I saw the "Heartbeat City" tour and was more impressed by their opening act (Wang Chung).

Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek WERE "The Cars" so I can't imagine this being any good.

BTW, Ocasek is an AWESOME producer and has produced many great albums.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I thought he was dead. He's always looked close to death.

Had to get out the 1st CD to listen to, high skool daze...  :smoke:

I only like the 1st and 2nd releases, anything after that didn't have any "personality" to me.

That first CD could be a greatest hits. They're local boys so we have heard all that stuff on local radio. "Moving in Stereo" get airplay anywhere else other than the Boston area?

That's a great song.

I was never into The Cars, but did like that song "Let the Good Times Roll" & the one that Ric Ocasek didn't sing, "Drive". There were too many others, like "You Might Think I'm Crazy" where I had thought Goofy from the Disney cartoons was singing.  ::)

I diig the vargas chick on the cover of Candy-O but I could take'em or leave'em.

I don't know why the other cars would tour without Orr or Ocasik except to try to make some bucks from schumucks.    I did hear they were trying to get Todd Rundgren to fill in   :P

Anyway... if I was Ric and I was married to Paulina Porizkova I'd probably stay home too.     I guess they live over In Millbrook but I've never seen out and about when I've been there for dumb antique shops/shows.  Bummer.  Paulina was a 11 on a 10 scale... maybe even 12 or 13.

Linda Rondstadt 8 tracks will definitely get you classified in the dork section, but that's your mom & I could never say something like that. Is she hot though? That may help unclassify her as a dork.  :D

Well ya.  a picture of my mom in her 20's and a picture of Daisy Duke are pretty close to being the same.

The trouble is that pic is probably 30 years old.     She WAS somewhat cute I guess...  but it's been awhile since she started having the lumberjack special at the diner for bre'fas.

meanwhile... for the youngins...  Paulina.

She's old now.

Well... she was was a hog when I saw her back in the early 80's.   It's like saying Ann Wilson looking kinda hot on the 1st Heart album cover and wondering what happened when you saw them in concert back then ...  what happened was an industrial strength girdle when they took the pic for the album cover.  I think Stevie Nicks quit eating twinkies for awhile when Fleetwodd Mac did a reunion but last time I saw a video of her she must have found a secret stash again.

Anyway,  Linda spent much more time at the trough than at the salad bar - It's been a long time since she's been a has been - it's sorta a permanent residence for her now.

The cars... "greatest hits" is one of my favourites albums on my collection...

I can't imagine them without Rick.

In fact I can't imagine any band with the original singer.

Only likes better than original singer, Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, Iron Maiden with Bruce Dickinson and AC/DC with Brian Johnson

The trouble with the Cars, like many other 80's bands is that they relied so heavily on techno gizmos to make their music that they would never hope to sound anything like their records in person. Another reason I tend to like the Grateful Dead, they sound the same way (good or bad) every time whether on vinyl or live. For my money, the best looking 70's /80's women were Olivia Newtron Bomb, Terri Garr & Jeannie Wilson (remember her from Simon & Simon?)

Crazy Larry

They are billed as "the New Cars" around here - and "Blondie" is opening up for them. I think she still looks good - but it was a distant photo of her that I saw last.

Not sure how well she has aged.

However, they want $75 for tickets - screw that! I'd rather spend that driving the Charger for a day  :P

TruckDriver

I heard The New Cars song a bit ago on the radio. I actually liked it a lot. Sounds just like the old Cars. I actually thought it was a new Rick Ocasek song they were playing. It sounded just like him. I guess maybe Todd  Rundgren will be a good replacement if it all sounds that good. I already forgot the name other wise I would of posted it. ::) It was "Not Tonight" I think.
