Hi Guys,
I've been lurking around the forum for a very long time, but this is my first new thread.
Hopefully within the next month or so, I will be the owner of a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. It is for sale locally here in Sydney Australia and I believe it is a fair deal.
Subject to an inspection by a few mechanics with Mopar knowledge, it should be in my garage pretty soon.
Although I have always had my heart set on a '69, I love the '68 just as much. (Maybe I'll have both one day)
It was restored in the US in 2006, came to Australia in 2007 via "Joe's Golden Gasoline Classics" South Australia, sold to a bloke in NSW last year and is now for sale again.
If anybody knows the car and can shed some light on its history, please chime in.
Genuine R/T, auto, centre console, AC, and has options such as power windows and cruise control, but these aren't on the fender tag.
I am yet to confirm whether it is matching numbers, but I am told it is.
Ok, here are the pics:

Not rude at all, but I intentionally didn't mention the price because I am sure it will start another discussion.
The asking price is AUD$55K. That may seem overpriced to most folks, but you need to consider that it is a different market over here in Australia. We need to factor in that it can take a lot more $$$ to get it here, pay all the taxes and get it on the road. Fred, you may be able to back me up on this. Maybe later I'll post some links to some Aussie for sale ads.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. It is great to finally be active on the board. No doubt, if I bring it home, I'll be asking a lot of questions.

Yeah, well seems reasonable given the circumstances, its a shame the aussies didn't build any american iron, and vice versa, would defiantly cut down the costs  :rotz:

I noted down the fender tag on paper, but haven't taken a photo of it yet. I will do that next time I see it.
I followed this thread to try to locate the position of the number on the block, but I was a little disoriented when checking in person.

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,38316.0.html

The owner told me that when he first registered it, the mechanic checked the block number using one of those little mirrors on the end of a rod.
As I did not have one of those, nor was the car on jacks, I couldn't get underneath to look.
When I have the engine looked at, I will confirm the numbers then.
Here is a pic of the engine bay from the ad, but the resolution is very low.

I sure can TPR. It is a very different market. We can't pick them up for the prices they can be gotten for in the USA. I paid $20k for mine and whilst it was an unmolested car, it needed a complete bare metal resto. I'll let you guess the final cost.
And while some on here will probably think you're mad to pay that for a Charger, we know better. It sounds like a pretty fair price to me.

Hey Poly, yeah that's another plus, seeing it in person is much more reassuring. Just looked at your profile, didn't realise you are an Aussie too. We are all coming out of the woodwork.

Twodko and A383, thanks for your words of warning, but I'm sure Fred will go easy on me. Won't you Fred?

Hey, nothing wrong with '68s...they were excellent prototypes for the '69s.  :smilielol:
