G'day Darkman, I've been following your progress. In fact I feel like a voyeur. I know so much about a lot of you guys, but you know nothing about me. Sounds kinda creepy.

Cool, that explains why I could not find a current website for the business. I do remember he used to advertise in JustCars and UniqueCars.
Thanks,

Gidday TPR, that's a fine looking 68,sure hope it stacks up mechanically and good body report too. At 55 aud I think that's fair money out in the colonies and on the road, it sure racks up quickly when you bring them in and try to get em road legal, ask me how I know , mine owes me more than that

Good luck with the purchase matey..... :2thumbs:

Yes x3 wish we could pick them up for U.S prices,

One life one ride

P.S Freds car is full of bondo  :D

JumpTraveler

Shipping to Australia is about $7000 from the US or I should say San Diego I know of a few reputable brokers easy to Google also

Chippa

Yeah thats about ballpark but then there are licensing fees, insurance etc then when you get the car and realize that there are lots of little things that you didnt bank on that needed replacing....then you start ordering parts and it quickly adds up..

Not always the case i know but for the most part these cars will always need some TLC unless you can afford to throw alot of coin at it to start with.....

Thats why its nice to buy one already here to inspect but then you incur the cost of what they sell for here... :Twocents:

Nice car , buy it , well optioned , factory air , tinted glass, cruise control, should have the trac lock 8 3/4 742 case rear, did I see power brakes, ? Only thing that looked odd door or qtr panel paint looked a little off compared with next panel , could be just the photo, three speed wipers,

fy469rtse

The options just get better, bucket seat console car, 26 inch radiator, don't let the guys put you off , even know we all love and have 69's the 68 is the first and the best, nice car , like the color , there all black , hard to tell them apart , sorry Fred , hard to get a decent 68 , let alone one in this condition

Darkman

Here's how mine stacked up dollars wise:

Car $10,000US (back when the Aussie dollar was horrible - it actually cost $12,000AU)
Broker $2,000AU
New roof skin $800AU
Taxes $1,500AU
Importing (total) $6,000AU

Total on car landed $22,300AU

For a $35k car in the US, you wont get much change from $50k by the time you bring it in (even with a strong Aussie dollar).

So you have done well with that price!

That's right, I'm sure I spent almost as much on shipping costs as I did the purchase price of the car. Wait a minute  :scratchchin:  probably more.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

When your looking for the engine numbers , if its a numbers matching car , they should be up on the rear of engine where the block and transmission part behind intake manifold , trany should be stamped as well if numbers matching, look for casting date on engine will be a good guide, also punching on top pad in front of engine ,again nice car , ask for reciepts for proof of work done , we all have them , i"m just not game to add them all up

I've just made the last payment and it has cost $6 870 to import a charger  so the 7000 guesstimate was pretty much spot on :2thumbs: GST is the killer over here  if you pay the money for something decent the gov. hits you for 10 % so add what 3-4 grand  :scratchchin:

It got increased to 15% here about 3 years back and everytime you turn around in the import process, someone is clipping the ticket . :o Even the insurances sting. The boat my agent had used many times before got put onto rock in the Tauranga harbour and sunk losing everything on board - one guy had a HT GTS on it, davy jones has that now. Was packing when I heard that story, fortunately mine was delayed leaving LA

Yep, power brakes.
On the fender tag under "AX" there was a 4, so I believe it is a 3.23 ratio.
You are right about the paint looking different from door to quarter panel and I think it is because the door is a little out of line and the angle catches light differently and makes it look like a slightly different shade of blue.
In fact, both doors are a little out of whack.
The car does have a few issues but most are cosmetic and it doesn't concern me too much. Air con is not currently working. As long as it gets the thumbs up from the mechanic, she will be mine.
Oh, and I am also waiting on a report to tell me if any money is owing on the car.

Yes, there are a certain number of extra risks you take when importing and frankly, I'm not sure if I could handle the extra stress and paperwork. God I hate paperwork.
This car is only 20mins away from me so I think it's a sign.
There is talk of raising the GST over here too, but it will be a little while away.
Also, our dollar was riding high at about $1.03US but has recently dipped down to $.97US, and looked to be staying down, so I think I'm onto a good deal here.
Gee, I sound like I'm still trying to convince myself.

Back N Black

Nice charger, love the color. I think that is a reasonable price, you can't build them much cheaper.  :2thumbs:

fy469rtse

If it checks out rust body stiffness etc, it would cost a lot more to build one, most are rusty due to their age etc, we all mostly have to start with that sort of car, I did, will start a thread when I learn how to post photos showing start to present , including victor junior headed 505 stroker , how many other cars you looking at are this good , jealous that you will get enjoy this car in short amount of time
