Job status poll - do you like your job at your present employer?

I put yes, but I do wish it were just a little more than just a 4 hour a day job. At least enough where I didn't have to pay for my own insurance out of that 4 hour paycheck. (but it is basically why I'm working).

My job?
Well, I recently started working for Chevron and absolutely love it.  Seems this will be the 2nd half of my career and it looks very promising.....

I am a Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist with them. Prior to this, I was with Schlumberger for 15 years as both a Seismic Data Processing Geophysicist and a Microseismic Geophysicist monitoring the Hydraulic Fracture Operations in Shale plays throughout the country ( seems a lot of people need to get educated on this one and not fall for the "dooms-dayers" rhetoric... ( But, that's another story all in itself )...

I'm also presently working on my 21st year in the U.S. Air Force ( Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist & QA Inspector ). It will be coming to an end soon as I will retire in Oct. I'll miss it, but as Mike has experienced, there has been some personal things that has happened to friends that puts things in perspective. One of the careers have to go and it's the Air Force...

I'm one of those lucky ones who works in an industry that reflects the education I achieved.......

I do have a good job, but it's nothing I want to do for the next 20 years soooo after school I'm starting a new career.

I hate most of my past jobs - some were fun but didn't pay the bills while others were terrible but payed better....   

I start a new job with Los Angeles City on monday while I wait for a contract to roll down with the USAF.

I hope the USAF will be a career instead of just a 4 year transition period...

I didn't really see a category that accurately reflects my situation except maybe the 'I'm stuck' category. Sometimes I hate my job, sometimes it's pretty cool. My brother-in-law works for the same company but in a different dept. and he calls the place "the golden handcuffs" because they pay us just enough to stay put. I looked around more than once in the same or similar industries and the place I work pays about as good as any. There are probably 100 jobs I'd rather have but I've been at this one 13+ years so it's hard to seriously consider leaving. For the most part I like the work and most of my coworkers so I don't see things being a whole bunch better elsewhere.

Poo-flinging moneys could do a better job of running the place but that seems to be the theme everywhere you go.

Self employed electrical contractor for 21 years now, with staff and without, a lot of the shine has worn off between interesting industrial based projects and had been starting to look at big paying overseas projects for a change of pace and a good payday without the grief of staff or customer horseshit. But having recently taken an offshoot into marine based refit work, I am motivated again and actually really enjoying the change. Am into my 2nd 3month contract on a large super yacht/ motor vessel this year and have got a few other marine based irons in the fire as a result.
