So for a variety of reasons I drove the Charger all over the valley today. Nice day for it though..  :coolgleamA:  So I had to stop and fill up the tank as I was running low and I learned a valuable lesson. It was almost a costly lesson.

Lesson: Don't pull into fuel the car such that someone is or could fuel up in front of you. Always stop at a pump where the car is facing out.  :P

I pulled into the station. It's a college town on a beautiful Friday evening. I pulled in with the nose of the charger facing the black VW at the forward pump and I was filling at the back one. The ditzy chick comes out of the Circle K and jumps in her VW. Proceeds to start it, shift into reverse and give it the old college try.   :scared: :scared: The back end of the VW is starting to stand up. That didn't work so she tried again, and gave it more gas.   :brickwall:  :fireangry: Thank god she was smart/stupid enough that she forgot to unset the parking brake. That's the only thing that saved the front end of the Charger tonight.  :eek2:  Yelling didn't make a difference and I didn't think banging on the car was a good idea as it probably would have freaked her out and she would have pegged it. So Ill just be glad that my lesson wasn't a costly one.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the tool that came hauling in like it was a NASCAR pit stop right after she left. That didn't help my heart either. Jammed on the brakes about 2 foot from the grille.

Be careful out there. They keep getting dumber every year.   :rotz:

No crap.  People car getting worse it seems.  I was amazed last Mopar Nationals I went to (2002) how stupid people drove around.  I must have been cut off at least 5 times, and almost got side swiped another 3 times.

I like driving West by my house where it's all country type roads.  I won't touch Chicago with one of my cars.

It's a charger when see such a a beautiful car they trip over themselves, get nervous, lose track, etc...hence that's why the chic forgot how to drive after seeing the charger.  Every time I fill up on gas people always stare, stop by, talk, then they forgot they are filling up gas and why they are there.

Driving the Dart around last year. No snow. All of a sudden I hear TING TING TING off the side of my car. Look over to see a guy mowing a patch of brown grass that was more gravel than grass and had to bag on his mower. He was shooting rocks out into the street. Lucky for him there was traffic behind me so I couldn't slam on the brakes.

Then there was the crow that took a rock and started scraping the paint off the roof....

But so far the worst is the new dents I got while my car was in storage. My step mother went into the barn to get some fence posts and either her or the person she was with put two new dents into the Dart.

The dents are located in the red circles on the picture below. One above and one below that body line which seems to be intact. Fairly good sized dents too.

What I can't understand is, I don't pull my 'draws' down a take a big dump in these people's living rooms, yet they will paw, mark, pick at, and basically deem it theirs to mall over at a car show, fuel station, etc.

I was at an outdoor carshow last summer, parked up next to a friends 1960 Imperial LeBaron and this guy kept hanging around while I was cooking my sausies on the portable BBQ. So, next thing I turn around and this 55 year old guy has the door open and is now sitting behind the wheel in the Imperial checking it out. This Imperial is immaculate too, with the 45 record player and loaded with the full fruit.
I race over and haul him out and he's trying to tell me he's neighbors with the owner and its cool. It most definitely is not cool and I will fill you in if you try it again buddy. He leaves embarrassed and me still seething with the disrespect that the prick showed the car or anyone for that matter.
20 minutes later Luke shows up and says" Yeah, the guy is a neighbor but not real close and Thanks. He'd do the same if someone was getting to overly excited with my car when it was parked up.

Good to bear the moron woman didn't hit your car BHP  :2thumbs:

Well, along the same lines of 'ignorant' public and Chargers. What do we expect from a generation that has never heard of Led Zepplin? Refer to AWESOME 1950's LEGENDS of rock music as "old timers" music? Don't even know that cars did NOT come with NAV systems? Etc.

People dont have time anymore these days also.

Always rushing from a to b. every minute spent in a car is one too much so it seems and while driving they need to do several other things to compensate the loss of time like drinking, eating, shaving, make phone calls or even worse, texting...

We even had a severe traffic accident a few years ago in a tunnel involving a lot of cars because a truck driver was jerking himself off whilst on cruise control and did'nt see the truck in front of him slamming the brakes....I kid you not, it happened!

Remember when I almost lost my car rrecently?  This morning I'm driving my daily beater, I get to the very same intersection and some chick in a Civic coming the opposite way takes a left turn at a RED light right in front of me.  Once again I had to stomp the brakes.  If you can't see a friggin' red light that's visible about 2 miles away, what the hell hope is there?

I drive extremely defensive right now.  In my eyes, everyone is about to do something stupid so it keeps me on my toes.

Cooter, I'd rather lose the Charger on the road then let it sit in my garage.  If I can't drive it, there's no reason to own it.  Sure it needs ot be road worthy, hence the need for bigger and better brakes, but I'll never stop driving it.

I'll never go to a show with it though and I try to fill up at odd hours of the day or night so there's fewer people around.  I usually fill up where there's two stations across from each other.  One is always a penny cheaper than the other so everyone goes to the cheaper one while I spend an extra penny and have the whole place to myself.  Peace of mind is priceless!   :icon_smile_big:

Just have it insured up the crack in case you need to replace it. It WILL get hit sooner or later, and big, HUGE brakes isn't gonna stop it. Sure, it will help, but won't stop it. Mine was 3 hours out the spray booth when some douche hit it. THAT'S why I refrain from driving during the weekdays if at all possible, but the urge does hit every other Friday or so.

In what is now a "throw-away" society, most people see a car as an expendable thing.  The fact that we care about something that is 40+ years old makes us somewhat deranged in the eyes of the vast majority of the general population.

Worst I've ever had was with my 85 Bonneville (355SB conversion with GN rear-end), nicely done car, not at all a beater.  I'm pumping similar to the OP and this douche-canoe in a blue Jeep Liberty pulls infront, and rams into me with his trailer hitch.  What does he say when he gets out? "Oh!  I used to have an old car like that, it's fine, they can take a beating ;)"...  To which my first thoughts were; "No, you can take a beating with my tire iron #$%@!"
