Looking for a HEMI, Any Thoughts on this HEMI Charger?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and have been thinking about looking for a 1970 HEMI Charger.  Has anyone seen in person this one that's been on ebay a few times?  Seems like it's been for sale for a while now??  I thought it sold at Barrett Jackson for 75K this year??  Must have been one of those inside bid jobs that the owner took it home?  I'm thinking about going to look at it but it's 1500 miles away.  Well, any thoughts and info will help me decide to take the trip to look at it.  Thanks,  Here's the ebay link

If I'm going to spend upwards of 100k, I am most certainly going to see it in person. No way I'm I going to ask a bunch of strangers to give me their opinions on a vehicle and put any credibility on the matter. Even the great strangers on this forum.

I think you are misunderstanding what I wrote.  Of course I would see it in person if I were going to buy it, but would like to know if anybody else has seen it already and hear what they thought of it.  Someone's thoughts might make me not want to spend/waste the money on the trip and rule out this car altogether.

It does make sense. And means dollars. If I was the seller I would be skeptical about selling to someone that doesn't even check it out in person. (At least have someone they trust to look it over for them). A buyer could choke up at something unexpected. And lots of frustrating backstepping would follow.

No pics of the trunk floor, no good shots of the underneath. Yet 2 or 3 of the oil pan ? and 2 pics of the gas tank? Hmm makes you wonder.

Hi Y1CHARGER, I think I could help you.  I was looking for a 70 HEMI Charger for a couple of years.  I came across this one you are talking about on another site and looked at it in person a year ago.  I spent about $1700 on my trip and was sooo disappointed.  If this "could be the nicest 70 HEMI Charger on the planet" then they are not talking about this planet!  I was told that it was everything anybody could ask for.  There weren't a lot of pictures but the seller emailed me some more but it seemed if there was a problem area, the picture was taken so the problem area was just cut off on the edge of the picture.  For example it has a 1969 dash cluster in it so the picture had the flasher switch cut off.  I also asked for pictures of the inside qtrs from inside the trunk, the pictures were taken to cut off the holes that were left in the qtrs from a 1969 RT emblem.  The holes were just smeared with bondo and looked like worms hanging down the qtrs inside the trunk.  The car was a 1969 Clone on ebay back in 2000.  I don't know how they can claim it to have 72,490 miles when the dash cluster has been changed.  The GTS report says engine is a 1969 casting number but when I looked it was a 1968 cast number and the MN426....number down by the starter was a mess.  The paint on the car looks good in the pictures but in person has more Tiger Stripes (metallic stroke marks) than ten tigers and seemed like there was many layers of previous paint jobs.  ALL 70 HEMI Chargers are suppose to have exhaust tips, they didn't make turn downs to attach to resonators, so along with no tips or resonators someone removed the hanger brackets that are suppose to be on ALL chargers, even a 318 car.  The center console was also cracked and someone sawed off the flasher switch on the steering column.  If you are going to look at it you SHOULD HIRE a professional to look at it with you.  Sorry for the novel but if you are interested enough and are careful with your money, you shouldn't mind the reading.

WOW!  I feel sorry for moparpoolman for wasting time and money.  Thanks for the input everyone, I guess most of the things mentioned could be corrected but how much would that cost???  The most troubling part to me is the casting date on the engine isn't the same as the casting date in the GTS report.  I've seen GTS reports for other cars before and thought they were pretty reliable.  They claim it to be matching numbers but sounds kinda strange now.  After all, you can't fix non matching numbers.  Could a 1970 hemi Charger have a 1968 block???

If it was priced right and is truly matching numbers, I might consider it, I do like the color combo but it really doesn't seem to be priced right for the flaws and I still haven't got any answers as far as the 1968 cast date on the block?

ok, it just seems the person selling is already shady as is and on top of that overpriced for what mopar has said already.

Seriously? I mean, it is a rare Mopar............. But, the nicest on the Planet? With the aftermarket ballast resistor, no windshield wiper squirters, screwed up exhaust in the rear, etc.......  Could be a reason it didn't go any higher than $80K. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own it.

The car is a jack-legged, rattle can resto just from the little I can see...which ordinarily would be fine.....until people start calling this stuff "The Best" etc.

I have a 70 Hemi Charger that started off a ton better than this one and I took it completely apart for a restoration......just sayin'

I learned a long time ago.....If you want something real bad.....that's what you'll get.......something real bad.

Be patient and you may be able to buy this one "right" or get a way better one for similar money.
