I thought they were discontinuing the Challenger after 2014? Guess not...

Chrysler Group is developing a supercharged Hemi V8 with power approaching the 640 hp of the SRT Viper's V10.

The 6.2-liter engine, code-named Hellcat, is expected to debut on the next-generation Dodge Challenger and perhaps other vehicles, according to sources within Chrysler.

At the rate we are going gas will be $6.00 a gallon when this goes into production...
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

They've been talking abouty that for a couple years. I'll believe it when I see it.  ::)

And just like the SRT version, it'll be priced so only the well off can afford it. Gimme 700 HP for around $37K, And I'll be impressed.

They could keep it simple to hold the cost down. And make it a 7.0 L but call it a 426 for old time sake.

and hear the whining for years about how its "not a real 426" and how its diluting the name and blah blah...?

Good point.  That would happen.  Never mind. Trying to relive a good old memory never works out as hoped.

I'd like to see them put the Viper engine in the Challenger. It works well in the 2011 Drag Pak Challenger. I know a lot of people don't dig the sound of the v10 but it would probably be much easier from a warranty perspective. While they're at it they could replace the independent rear with a Dana 60.  Pipe dream maybe but a guy can dream.

True, but people will make those complaints no matter what the factory does.  If Mopar made a new Hemi with even more perfectly hemispherical combustion chambers than the original gen-II motor, then GM guys would probably bitch that Mopar was not building a genuine semi-hemi this time.

As for the Ford guys, they've spent 30 years not explaining how 302 inches equals 5.0 liters.

This was a long standing debate with the Blue oval site. It was a Body style. NOT the actual size of the engine. Ford already had a 4.9 Liter engine in the trucks (300-6), tis no wonder they didn't want every single buying person looking at a new Mustang GT to ask "Hey! Why did y'all put the 300 L6 in the Mustangs for?"

I'm all but positive the Mopar community would completely have a COW if the hood scoop on a 440+6 Roadrunner said 439.77889+6.
Or the 426 Hemi Actually said 425.88978 Hemi on the air cleaners.

And God forbid the Chevy guys had a 426.88867 BBC in their Vettes.

Thank you for that. These logos speak to the public but they for the most part don't even know what it means.

Except maybe that bigger is better.

I like the idea. The Hemi is a great engine but GM and Ford have been using this tactic for a while.

Mike DC

I'm just saying Ford guys don't have room to gripe if Mopar were to fudge their engine names a bit.  The "302" Ford was a 4.00 bore x 3.00 stroke, which means 4.942 liters.
