The auto trans behind the 5.9 is weak, the one behind the 6.7 is better but not bulletproof. On my first 06 I put 35"s and a superchip, transmission was not even build able at 38k miles. I was ruff on the truck though (doughnuts, burnouts, even burnouts with 24' gooseneck hooked up   :icon_smile_big:). Now I have a 07 with the same transmission and way more performance mods on this truck, and it seems fine. I think all that really matters is how you treat it.  :Twocents:   They have weak transmissions, keep that in mind when you are driving it and you will probably be ok.

On a side note I also had a 06 dually 6speed cummins for pulling and the clutch parts are over $1000 not counting labor. After a few clutch replacement that will pay for the auto to be rebuilt.  :Twocents:

I think you lost credibility for saying they are weak when you mentioned doing burnouts with a gooseneck hooked and doing donughts in a 7000lbs truck lol. Once you start driving a 7000lbs truck like a 3000lbs mustang/camaro things are going to break quick.

I had a 7.3 powerstroke once. Only truck i took a bath on out of the 8 or so diesel trucks i have owned. Wire harness under the valve covers running in oil and valve cover gaskets that double as electronic connections i mean really how did this make it past the drawing board.

I will say the superduty steering set up is better than the dodge.

My 99 has 220k miles on it and no trans issues at all.
for sale too  :coolgleamA:

Me likey that truck!   I have a 95 1500 with the same color!

Lots of guys over on the cummins forum do the swaps. Not worth the time/hassle wiring computer change ect IMO. Keep lookin and pay another $1-2k asking price for a stick.

just listed my truck. honestly i just want what i can break even for a stock ram. last superduty i saw setup like mine with a big dent in the side of the bed sold for $19k and im under that with less miles and so much better looking so i feel like i could get her sold quick.

Every so often you see someone out there selling a fummins that was done right, best of both worlds in my opinion.

Wicked72

after talking with some cummins shops i think i may just get another superduty... they said the CR cummins is in no comparison as reliable as the second gen and the trans are just not cut out for what i wanna do unless i spend big bucks. and im not into the 2nd gen trucks. kind of a downer but while looking for a ram 90% of the trucks have new injectors and rebuilt trans and a good portion completely rebuilt engines. i cant afford to put injector in as often as ive been told. so a crew cab duty ill be getting.

Well this coming sat ill be omw to Missouri to trade my truck for an 01 crew cab superduty. So far i feel sick to let my baby go..... like physically sick. But i gotta do it... The drive is going to suck 2000 miles round trip he paying my fuel so thats good. Will take thousands to make it the way i want and its an auto  :eek2:. So first thing to do if its not done get a better trans cooler, i have a 24 row cooler i hope that will do the trick for awhile till i get a zf6 swap together then worry free ill be!! gots no pics right now i will later. i think its nick name will the big ugly.... till its to my specs :2thumbs: anyone have some parts for a zf6 swap let me know!!! luckly the trans is supposed to be great so i could sell it from some swap $$
