Yet more restrictions, more taxes, more "guns kill people not people kill people" fear mongering. I could not find the specific language in this bill but a guy at my local hunting supply store says Cali will not allow online ammo sales and FFL holders will be the only legal sellers of ammo.

That's only one of a dozen gun-unfriendly bills pending in the PRK.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I don't see where it says online retailers either. With no definition of what a retailer is, we can assume a broad definition, and that would include online sales.

It would appear the bill allows online sales, and online retailers would just have another tax to collect.

Nothing here in California would really surprise me anymore with the people ruining & running our once great state, BUT I don't see anything about "No Internet" sales either, it's an introduced added Tax on Ammo, I don't think it has been passed yet, but it's an added tax for the law abiding gun owning citizens of California, over the already high sales taxes, that we have he already in the Nanny State of California  :nana: , from 2 Democrats/Liberals - Assembly Member Dickinson & principal coauthor Senator Steinberg.... What a screwed up legislature and a hodgepodge of anti-gun bills! How did these people get control of your state? Such a beautiful state that will, unfortunately, go on my list of NEVER wanting to move there!

The fiscal cliff is in sight for you people living in the PRK but it just doesn't stop the legislature from passing more spending everyday! Lots of states in a fiscal bind right now but I believe the PRK will be the first to fall!

twodko

Here's the full skinny........prepare to be outraged.

AB 48 Online ammo sale ban

The following bills all passed in the state Senate Committee on Public Safety by a 5 to 2 vote.
The following Senators opposed the below anti-gun bills: Senators: Joel Anderson and Steve Knight.  The following Senators supported the below anti-gun bills:  Senator Loni Hancock, Marty Block, Kevin de Leon, Carol Liu and Darrell Steinberg.
Senate Bill 47 (Yee) expands the definition of "assault weapons" to BAN the future sale of rifles that have been designed/sold and are equipped to use the "bullet button" or similar device, requires NEW "assault weapon" registration of ALL those semi-auto rifles that are currently possessed to retain legal possession in the future, and subjects these firearms to all other "assault weapons" restrictions.
Senate Bill 53 (DeLeon) requires persons to buy an annual ammunition purchase permit, requires the registration and thumbprint of the purchaser for each ammunition purchase, and bans online and mail order sales of ammunition to Californians.
Senate Bill 108 (Yee) requires mandatory locked storage of firearms within a locked house regardless of whether anyone is present.
Senate Bill 293 (DeSaulnier) BANS the sale of conventional handguns, if the state Department of Justice approves the sale of "Owner Authorized – Smart" handgun technology.
Senate Bill 299 (DeSaulnier) turns victims of firearm theft into criminals for failing to report the loss of their firearm within 48 hours.
Senate Bill 374 (Steinberg) expands the definition of "assault weapons" to BAN the future transfer of all semi-auto rifles that accept detachable magazines (including those chambered for rimfire cartridges) and virtually all semi-auto rifles with fixed magazines (primarily those chambered for rimfire cartridges), requires NEW "assault weapon" registration, requires registration of ALL those semi-auto rifles that are currently possessed to retain legal possession in the future, and subjects these firearms to all other "assault weapon" restrictions.
Senate Bill 396 (Hancock) BANS the POSSESSION of any magazine with a capacity to accept more than ten cartridges, including currently legally possessed "grandfathered large capacity" magazines.
Senate Bill 567 (Jackson) expands the definition of shotgun for "short-barreled shotguns" that are illegal to own.
Senate Bill 755 (Wolk) expands the list of persons prohibited from owning a firearm.
Yesterday, anti-gun Assembly Bill 169 (Dickinson), which BANS the sale of handguns not on the state-approved roster, passed in the Assembly Public Safety Committee by a 12 to 5 vote.  AB 169 will now be sent to the full Assembly for consideration.
This fight is not over.  Continue to call AND e-mail your state Senator and Assemblyman.  They MUST hear from you TODAY urging them to OPPOSE these anti-gun bills listed above.  Don't forget to forward this alert to your family, friends and fellow gun owners throughout California and urge them to do the same.  We need all of California gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to continually call AND e-mail their state legislators. The California Legislature needs to know that this egregious attack against law-abiding citizens needs to stop.
You can write your representative here urging them to OPPOSE the anti-gun bills listed above.  Please feel free to also copy and paste all the bill information to ensure your state legislators know which bills to OPPOSE.
You can also send a letter to all elected officials in California here.  Please feel free to copy and paste all the bill information above to ensure the elected officials of California know which bills to OPPOSE.

Greetings Posse of Chaos,

I have spent the last several days calling all over Calif**kedupia looking for a Glock 17. This state is becoming more oppressive and draconian everyday!

Finally, FINALLY after spending half the day on the phone I found a dealer in Eureka who had one Glock 17 left. I bought it on the spot and am having it sent to a local store. Its really bad here folks....I'm embarrassed to tell you its costing me a total of $833 to buy a $500 weapon. What a charlie foxtrot this state has become.

On a positive note BulkAmmo.com has ample supplies of product. I have taken healthy advantage of 5.56, 9mm and 12 gauge 00 & slugs at decent prices given the fear mongering hysteria these days.

Its crazy here but with the coming ban on online ammo sales to Cali I'm more or less comfortable moving on these items. Fellow Cali sufferers if you need to replenish your stocks checkout BulkAmmo.com

In my estimation, bulkammo.com has some pretty high prices. There are better options online - but you may have to be quick if you find a good deal. I generally get ammo at about half of what those guys are charging (which is why they have so much in stock!). If you do buy online, make sure you get as much as possible because shipping for the first few boxes is a killer - but it gets cheaper than sales tax if you order 10 or more. I've always joked about importing engines/transmissions to California but it may just be a better business deal to ship in ammo. And you guys always make fun of us in the Midwest... ;)

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

charge69

My goodness, twodko,  you are paying a lot more than even the price-gougers are charging down here! I guess all the fees involved with shipping a gun to a local FFL has something to do with it but, .... wow, that is a hefty price! My LGS, a nearby pawn shop, still has new G17's (Gen 3 which I prefer) in stock for $479 + tax ! Yes, he does have them in stock for that!

Try Cope's distributing for ammo. At least get on their mailing list for emails about it. I, very recently, got 1k rounds of American Eagle 180gr. FMJ 40 S&W from them for $399.00 plus $12.00 shipping to my door.

I haven't looked to see if they ship to the PRK but I think  they do.

Carl

twodko

Believe me I searched and searched for the best price on a Glock 17. Obviously no  business outside Cali will sell any guns to any dealer in Cali so we are left to scour the state. The underlying hitch is " high capacity" magazines. outside the PRK such mags come as part of the hand gun purchase. But anything holding more that 10 rds is illegal in Cali hence it's illegal for out of state dealers to sell their products here. There were two promising dealers in SoCal but when I called they had none and no idea when their stock might be replenished. Taxes here are very high here as well, the Glock I finally found was at a dealer almost on the Oregon border. The sales tax alone was $53.....$40 handling, read shipping to the receiving dealer and $80 for the transfer fee. That $80 fee was the cheapest I could find most charging $150 or more.

And online ammunitions sales......an equally frustrating endeavor. I have bought from several vendors over the years and have enjoyed cheap bulk pricing. Now these same outfits advertise this and that for what seem to be "good" prices these days but when contacted for purchases they are sold out despite their websites touting "we have it in stock".

The mass hysteria and "gun nut" fear mongering the Feds and ultra Libs have instilled in a large percentage of the population have amplified the difficulty of buying legal firearms/ammunitions by an order of magnitude. I'm def not happy to be gouged by retailers taking advantage of the situation. The end result of my endless phone calls, emails etc while ultimately fruitful are indicative of the craziness these days.

To close I'll put this out here for your consideration.....these horrible killings of innocents by whatever means are so far beyond any rationale that people are shocked beyond measure. And rightly so however, people need someone, something to blame in order to make some sense of it all. By way of the aforementioned groups, firearms have become the great satan. People can't see the forest for the trees anymore becoming little more than sheeple.
My point of view my seem harsh but I live in an obsurdly draconian state.

Recently another well informed member here mentioned that we can vote out of office those politicians who have managed to get "ban this and ban that" on the books as law is about all we can do. Once these laws are on the books it's damn near impossible to get them struck down.

I don't have the answer guys. Just doing the best I can with what we have to work with.

Thank you Charge69 for the heads up on Copes. They are now bookmarked on my machine.

I did not look at Cope's site before suggesting them but I can tell you to go ahead and order the "out of stock" ammo from them and they will not charge you until it comes in and is shipped. Pay attention to the emails you get from them and act quick if you see something you like or need. I check my emails regularly and got the email from them about the 40 S&W and bought it ASAP. They shipped it in about 24 hrs. from my order and I got it in about 3 days from shipping it.

Be sure to sign up for sales emails from Cope's. Most things they put on sale, I do not need or want but,  that is how I got my ammo.

I feel sorry for you living under the current regime there. They could well be too far gone to save California from itself! A beautiful state with draconian laws about EVERYTHING, not to mention the high and soon to get higher tax rate!

I can find FFL's who will do a transfer all day long for $15.00 to $25.00 here. The rates they charge there is just crazy!

P.S. high-capacity mags are the norm here and, rightfully, not regulated!

UPDATE......

Salutations fellow Moparites,

I received a call today from the firearms dealer I bought my Benelli M2 from. They said they got a letter from the PRK department of justice saying my purchase has been put on "indefinite hold". The sales rep was a great guy, very apologetic and gave me the DOJ's phone number and my DROS number. Said I should begin calling daily but also said they wouldn't be able to give me a reason for the hold. WTF!
I asked him if this was becoming more common, his response was it has been happening more and more often in the last 6-8 months. The PRK DOJ has seen a huge increase in DROS's requiring background checks..SOP...so I asked if this could be the issue. He said more than likely yes, he also said he could receive a letter of "release" at any time as well. Again WTF! A statewide organization called CalGuns has filed a class action suit against the state AG, DOJ et al for just this reason.
It's getting mighty squirrelly here in the PRK. I'm now wondering if I'll get a similar call from the dealer I just bought a Glock 17 from........probably.

Unbelievable.

What a big, steaming pile of BULLS$!T !  When you pick up the Glock, isn't that when you will fill out the 4473 and then they do the call for the background check? I really don't know as I have only bought 1 gun over the net but my recieving dealer was the one who was responsible for my filling out a 4473 and  calling for the background check. I already have a Concealed Handgun License so, my dealer just takes info off my CHL and doesn't even call it in. The gun is mine right then!

I was looking to purchase a Sig 226 but...         With all this B.S. going on it's looking bleak.

Update.....

I spent some time this afternoon researching the PRK DOJ gun purchase delays. Turns out that semi-auto shotguns are on the "assault weapons" list. This list specifically identifies these shotguns as having:

A pistol grip

A forward mounted secondary grip

Holds a rotary or high capacity magazine

Has a barrel of 18" or 26" or longer

A folding or telescopic stock

Threaded barrel to accept a suppressor

The my Benelli has an 18" barrel so I suspect this is the cause of the delay. Since it has none of the other descriptors I'm confident it will be released. My Glock 17 should be a cakewalk release

FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

Rolling_Thunder

My AR15 has all those "evil" features....      no detachable mag though (bullet button) so it is not classified as an "assault rifle" ---   gotta love loopholes.

I'm happy to report I took possession of my new Glock 17 today. I could have picked it up yesterday after 12 noon but waited one more day to make sure the PRK didn't rear it's ugly face. Very pleased with the gun and it fits my hand perfectly. I'm eager to take it to the range but there is a huge 4 Day car show and cruise i'm entered in beginning tomorrow so it'll prolly be next Thursday before I can put some rounds through it.

That is a very nice gift indeed! I hope those mags are easier to load than my Glock mags. I looked at that same .40 too. I sold a Spingfield Armory 1911 A1 .45 in order to buy my Glock. I bought the .45 way back in '84 along with my AR. Truth be told the .45 kept pulling my britches down.

I'm eager to put some rounds through my Glock. It will be a very different hold and feel from that of the .45.

It's got an plastic deal Magazine Loader that came with the kit, the thing in the middle of the photo, where you use to push down on the spring in the mag., with one hand & stuff the rounds in with the other, you get to #10-#11 of the 12 rounds it can hold & one in the chamber if you wanted, it gets pretty tough, my old Pops can't even cycle the slide/action, let alone load the magazines, he's not strong enough, I plan to do some mods to it, smooth & hone the action, it's a little too hard, lighter trigger pull, open & polish the loading ramp a little, bevel the opening of the butt/mag-well, where the mag goes in, maybe some better adjustable competition type sights some day.... It's not really too heavy... I wear a belt if I'm carring...LOL...

Nice Glock 17 !!  I thought you were old enough to remember the 1st rule of being a gun owner.  That rule is:  NEVER sell any of your guns to finance another gun!

I sold a 4" bbl. S&W Model 629-4 because a buddy kept pestering me about it and he had a Model 629-4 Lew Horton Snubbie (2 1/2" bbl.) he was willing to trade even! Knowing I was getting the better end of the deal, moneywise, and figuring I could just find another 4" bbl. model around here, I did the trade. Well, 2 1/2 years later of looking I got him to sell it back to me for a great price! I could not find another one around here to save my life! He knows better than to ask me to sell one of my guns now! Bye the way, I still have his Model 629 snubbie! Ha !

I will sell some of my guns in due time but NOT to finance another gun! I bet the new owner of the SA is a happy man you wanted to sell yours!

twodko

True, true all too true. I offer my unthinking skeevy carcass to the mercy of the MOPAR posse court.
Oh woe am I and my grievous decision to sell my "stop it in its tracks.....permanently" .45.
I have no excuse.......except

I sold that 1911 to a fella who bought it for his retired sheriff Dad's BDay. I can only hope the MOPAR posse court has mercy on my sorry self.  :shruggy:

That and I was jonesing for a Glock.

The belt thingy is funny.   A belt worked very well for me for many years. Then one day I discovered my ass relocated to my gut and short of wearing suspenders it became real embarrassing grabbing at my ankle for the .45.  :smilielol:

Pretty funny, twodco.  I think my gut must have done the same thing as my gut sticks out in the way of my normal IWB carry. Usually carry a J-frame in my pocket now but still carry cross draw when driving my car. Sometimes, I still carry in a "Day planner" with a holster and extra mag holder inside instead of a normal calendar and note paper! It has never been suspected of carrying a gun but holds my G 30 and an extra mag of .45acp comfortably and sits on the seat beside me upright just in front of the seatbelt buckle comfortably. It has been on many a trip this way and is never suspected of being a gun. Been doing it the "day planner" way for years when I travel by car any distance, but cross draw is very comfortable in a vehicle when seated.

Hate to bust your ballz about selling the SA. I just never have been satisfied after selling one of mine.

Enjoy your new G 17. They shoot really well and are a great weapon. I think I have 12+ Glocks in different flavors at this time and am happy with each and every one of them.

"Hate to bust your ballz about selling the SA. I just never have been satisfied after selling one of mine."

No worries all. I appreciate everybody's point of view. For me that is another tool I use to help make a choice.

Thanks,  a .45acp Glock is a wonderfully accurate and reliable platform.  Just don't "limp wrist" it, as with all Glocks, and you will be very happy. I have .45acp pistols in a number of platforms, including at least 7 Colt Govt's, and the Glocks tend to be the most reliable for me.  YMMV

twodko

I'd like your thoughts on my current frustration with the PRK DOJ and the store I bought the Benelli M2 from.
I realize things are a great deal more sensible in Texas so you might not be able to comment.

It's seems to me that given the "knee jerk" paranoia in Cali that gun stores certainly must known a hold would be put on guns beyond the 10 day background check waiting period. One would think business ethics would demand due diligence in informing a buyer of such holds. They did not say beans to me about this and now I'm stuck.

I can either wait who knows how long for this hold to be lifted....if at all or just blow off the purchase. The dilemma is if DOJ decides denies my purchase.......just because they can.......the store would charge me a whopping 35% restocking fee!

If I choose to curtail the purchase and want my money back they would still charge me the 35% fee. Either way I'm screwed but it sure seems the store has an obligation to tell customers about routine holds being placed on purchases. This fee is damn close to $500!

We're I to choose the latter option I would have to fight them in small claims court to get a full refund.........more money and time. I'd probably lose too because the fee is written in small print at the bottom of the receipt.
My bad for not fully reading all the disclaimers.    But Hell!
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

charge69

I truly feel for you and dealing with the California DOJ and their ridiculous background checks and "holds" ! That said, a 35% restocking fee is totally out of line! If a 35% restocking fee is over $500.00, you paid a lot more for that shotgun than I can! Why, in the world, would anyone deal with a store that, undoubtedly, charges too much for a gun and has that high of a restocking fee on top of that!

Get out of that asinine state ASAP!  I will go on record that California will be the first state to default on their budget and, basically, go broke! Before Illinois, before Michigan, before any of the quickly-going broke New England States. Wayyyyyy too many programs in Cali to sustain it's way of life for long! Too many of the "paying" tax base leaving there and leaving the state with higher and higher fees and taxes just to stay afloat and care for the ever-growing number of Californians on the Govt. teat!

yep there is...  :Twocents:  to that last part especially, Calif. Native born Concord 1959, my family have been here since 1850's, too bad all the coastal regions, the LA & SF area's are all so bad, it use to be a great place to live & raise your family....

I feel for ya also Budnicks!  California is a beautiful state that has been ruined by the politicians elected by the carpetbagger majority along the coastal areas! Went to MCRD bootcamp in San Diego in Feb. '66 and thought it was a beautiful, if not expensive to buy a home, place to settle down. Never did as I returned to Texas when I returned from active duty and watched in dismay as the state got progressively bogged down in stupid regs and laws brought forth by the coastal majority.

These people, in no way, represent the rural Californian anymore!

Wow, MCRD in San Diego. I suffered on the other side of the fence in 69. Hell would be paid if we so much as sneezed toward your side. Small world guys.

The "other side of the fence" is no longer there! Just the San Diego Airport is left on the other side of the fence now. By 1969 I was already back from a 19 month stay in RVN as a Helo crew chief and doorgunner. Actually came back in 1968. People, these days, have a hard time just getting into the military! I made E-5 Sergeant in 17 months back then! Of course, rate was "wide open" for Helo crew chiefs back then! Ha!

Southern California seemed a different place back then ! I am guessing it really was!

Take care, swabbie!

I may have to hit you guys up for bail money. In one week it will be 30 days beyond the required 10 day waiting period since the DOJ levied a hold on my shotgun purchase. I stopped by the dealer yesterday and got the DOJ's full address and composed are respectful letter of inquiry last night. It's in the mail. I figure if they won't send me any explanatory correspondence.....not that they have to right?.....I would write to them.

By mid week next there may be over flights of my home and unmarked cars in my hood just before they break my door down demanding my "papers".

Nothing to lose except possibly my freedom.......more to follow.

Good luck with the letter of inquiry. I just do not know what else to say. If I had bought it, I would have walked out with it the same day! Your situation really sucks

Have you thought that they might be swamped with purchase requests? :popcrn:

Well, they are indeed facing a huge increase in backgrounds checks due to the knee jerk political actions of late on the state and national levels. The PRK's gun violence control bills are passing faster than refried beans. This has resulted in a statewide rush to acquire what can be had while its still possible. It's crazy what we have to do now.

I did include a statement of understanding regarding their backlog and, of course, the rest of my letter was respectful and low key.

On a positive note I have seen ammo prices coming down over the last few weeks. Certainly nothing like it should be but not as bad.

Stay tuned......
