70 Charger hideaway headlight question

Need some help.   Took out my grill last year to restore but now putting it all back together, I see the rod connecting the hideaway headlight doors to the motor needs to bend to connect everything together.   Everything is mounted in the correct place as far as I can see.   I do not recall if the rod bent like this before I took it apart last year but it looks odd.   Can someone with hideaway headlights confirm if this is correct?  I don't want to burn the motor out.   Here are a couple of pics of what I am talking about.

Yes, that is correct. Just restored a 70, and was the same way, and they worked fine.
