I have the chance to by a 68 charger that has been setting out rotting for 30 years.  Sheet metal and frame are toast.  Car is a 318 with air and all the pieces are there except the a/c parts that were in the engine bay.  Basically i would be getting a pile of parts.  Value????

$2,500? I dunno? but let's see more of that Monaco in the background!

A few hundred bucks and hope you can save enough parts to get your money back.  I wouldn't pay a grand if they dropped it off in my garage.  That car is gone.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

$300-400 max... but I wouldn't even waste time looking at it. I sold one a lot nicer than that with more usable parts for $1,000 - when prices were high!

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Old Moparz

Troy is right, I wouldn't bother with it unless the guy will include hauling it to you for the price you pay, which better be minimal. You said all the metal is gone already, so that doesn't leave you much to use or sell. From the pics I can see the wood grain steering wheel is shot. It will cost more to fix that wheel than an after market one costs new. All the vinyl will be sun baked & dried out beyond use. Any chrome will be pitted & rusted & will also cost more to re-plate than what after market can cost. The glass may be the only thing decent but check it carefully because old glass de-laminates at the corners & edges.

The last two cars I parted were way more work than it was worth. I got a lot of what I needed from one while selling the remaining shell & considered myself lucky to recoup about half of what I spent. The other I made a few hundred on, but the amount of time I had into it probably paid me less per hour than what a 9 year old kid in a Chinese factory earns.

I agree with the under a grand value, however, there sure seems to be quite a few thread where people have bought (or considering buying) cars in a lot worse shape than that heap who are seemingly glad to shell out thousands.   :shruggy:

With that being said, I sure hope the guy from Italy got his for free.

areibel

I can't really tell from the pics, but if it's got a useable hood and decklid, maybe an 8 3/4 under it, some of the grill can be salvaged, and a bunch of core parts (radiator depending on size, bumpers, maybe braces, seats, dash, glass, door guts etc..) I'd go up to $1500- $2k max.  If it's an 8 1/4 car and none of the sheet metal can be saved, more like $500.

Rolling_Thunder

1968 Chargers either got an 8 3/4 or a Dana 60...     no 8 1/4 until 1970 I believe ----    not sure about the /6 cars though

That car looks like it's gonna come apart at the back if you try and tow it.    Unless you have mad skills and lots of money I'd pass on it.   Lots of guys can't fork out the money for something better and end up buying these kind of cars only to realize they can't afford to fix it.    Save/spend a few more bucks and buy a more solid car.   :Twocents:   good luck.

There are a lot of parts on that thing. Stainless trim all looks good from what the pics show, some grill parts, front bumper looks straight, power brake booster just to name a few things..

No way would I even consider restoring the car.  I am restoring a 70 and already have a parts car for it.  Just thought it would be a shame to let all the salvageable parts go to waste.  The only part I really need is the pentastar emblem.  So many of these cars have been picked over and this one (with the exception of the a/c stuff) is all there.  The guy bought it for the hood so he could use it on his 69 R/T.  He hasn't touched the R/T in 30 years either, but at least it is inside.

Troy

Ok, if we're parting it...

It has A/C and a 26" radiator so the radiator support and tinted glass (especially the rear window) might be worth something.
Seat cores (if the track aren't rusty) maybe ~$300-450
Gauge cluster ~$250
Dash bezels (if they aren't broken) ~$15-50
Misc. trim ~$300
Steering column ~$100-150
Bumper cores $20-100 depending on condition
K-frame $50-100
Steering box is worth $100-150 as a core - but not outright
Console parts ~$30-100
A-pillar trim ~$20

It doesn't appear to have a rear axle. I can't tell if it has rear window trim.

It might be nice to have a spare stash of bolts, slips, and fasteners. A spare headlight switch (it it's not broken) would be very handy.

You'll like break nearly every bolt disassembling it. Best bet without lots of manual labor is to buy it *cheap* (less than $500) and sell the seats, seat belts, dash, miscellaneous interior bits, and window trim then sell the whole rest of it to someone else. Getting it on and off a trailer will suck so if you have to pay for a rollback then it's already too much of a pain.

Door trimmings look decent I might buy them too....

I see it has the driver side engine tie down chain. You just don't see that option anymore.  :scope:

Dibs on the sail panel bows, retainer wires and mounting clips. I could also use the long bow mounting clips, too.

Good question.  How much would it effect the value if there was no title?

A383Wing

depends on the State you or the car is in...getting car put in your name or to sell for scrap usually requires a clear title

Just sayin' that might be an issue

Bryan

bull

The seat frames and grill headlight grille surrounds are worth $500 easy, assuming they're all there.

JB400

If there's no title, just call it parts unless you're gonna make a purpose built race car out of it.  Considering how far this car is gone, that is what I'd do with it, make a race car of some sort out of it.

VegasCharger

I'll take the heater blower motor even if it doesn't work.

Also I want first dibs on those fog lights LOL.

If that car has a clean title I'd pay $1000.00 all day long.  :Twocents:

Bingo.
That's a good price for a complete parts car. Lots of parts worth value to many people on that car.
Heck, if the steelie's are original with part numbers and stuff on them they are even worth a decent buck to people who are doing factory restos for their spares.
Bottom line if you can get it for a good price then go for it.  :2thumbs:
