McLeod, Tilton or Hydramax hydraulic clutch slave?

Hey guys.

Wondering if anyone else has researched this topic. I didn't see a thread when I searched. . .

Currently I have a Wilwood 7/8" bore pull-type slave pulling the stock fork acting on a stock throw out bearing. It is actuated by a 7/8" MC on my triple MC Wilwood pedal assembly. I completely cut out the stock firewall & welded in a plate so I could go with this set-up. Very tunable as MC's are only $66; I'm running 6-pot 12" fronts w/ a 5/8" MC (1,600psi line pressures!) and 4-pot 11" rears w/ a 3/4" MC (1,100psi line pressures!), 17" wheels. Manual brakes that stop like new SRT Brembos! Only change I look to make in the future is upgrading to Wilwood's new 13" one-piece rotor & radial mounted caliper. When I bought they only had the two-piece 13", which was $900 more than the $1,200 fronts that I got, new 13" kit is only $400 more, oh well. I have friends w/ 15" wheels that want my 6-pot fronts, so it'll happen eventually!

But, I digress. . .

For my 440 4-speed, I believe it's a 23-spline A-833.

My question is comparing/evaluating the values/benefits/quality comparison of the 3 hydraulic throw out bearing slave cylinders that I know of. McLeod makes 2 beautiful red ones, one is bolt on and non-adjustable for wear, so I consider that one out, the other is slip-on, shim to fit perfectly, like the other 2. Tilton makes a black one and there's a blue one out there by Hydramax.

Has anyone had any experience with either of these three? Any regrets? Any compliments? Any suggestions?

I plan to go with one of these three, as my throw out bearing is 'talking' to me every now & then, letting me know it's worn. As long as the tranny is out, it's getting rebuilt & might as well upgrade the pull slave to the bearing slave that I'm investigating.

I appreciate any input you guys might have.

Thanks again.

Sorry I can't help on the question.

I just wanted to say I really dig your 3-pot brake/clutch setup there.   I'd like to run something similar but I'm too attached to heavy power assistance on the brakes.  The recent "Fast & Furious 6" manual-trans Daytona stunt car was also done like that.

How well did the fabbing process go for that whole setup of yours?  Was the steering column a big issue?

F&F 6 stole my idea! No, really, they did! I started this project 18 months ago! When I told the Wilwood tech that I was putting this in my '68 RestoMod, he said, 'Um, this is a RACE set-up, nobody puts this in a street car, you're going to be extremely pleased with the results!' They did kinda goof me up by recommending a 1"f & 7/8"r MC. Then I installed it, wooden feel, switched to 7/8"f & 1"r, was better, switched to 3/4"f & 7/8"r, was better yet, finally switched to 5/8" in the front and 3/4" in the rear, now I was getting the kind of brake pressures I wanted with minimal leg effort! It really stops like my SRT8 Jeep, now! With manual brakes!

The steering column wasn't a real issue, at all. . . I did have to lose the stock vent airbox on the left of the assembly, and plan to either cut-up the stock one so that it will clear the pedal assembly, or fab up a different vent door to a plate that covers the huge hole coming from the cowl!

I put the column back in after removing all the stock brake assembly, then with my new pedal assembly & plates I had made up, went in to figure exactly where I should cut out the firewall, to weld in my plates & create my new mounting spot. I held it in place & my friend marked it with a sharpie while I checked pedal swing, interference, etc. We measured about ten times, before we cut once!

I would post a bunch of pics, and I have been meaning to do so in the Brakes & Suspension section for guys that might be interested in what I did, but I have not had the time. I do have a running chronicle I keep up in FaceBook for my friends, I'll post the links so you can check them out.
