blackwolf good luck man! after 12 seasons of full time racing i can tell you sponsorships are TOUGH!  after wining the bigest show in the state, and finishing 5 points out of fifth in points i really hit the pavement thinking i could grab up some sponsors.  i went to see our local dodge dealer and they were barely polite..they did offer me parts at 10% off.....big freakin deal i already get mopar parts at like a %5 mark up from the dealer my buddy works in the parts dept of.(his price, the parts guys buy cheaper than the other employes of the dealer..dunno why). the local dealer wouldnt even give me a $200 parts credit or something like that. pretty much every buisness i talked to gave me a friendly brush off..even places i do buisness with regurlarly.

I did have a couple great sponsors. one would paint the car free every season, one season they even redid it mid season. the sign shop i work with would still do my cars for free beacuase i talked my former employer into buying like 1000 t shirts from them in less than a year, and they still do some buisness i believe. if you make a big sale for somebody they will take care of you, its good buisness. they sponsor other cars, but none of them has ever brought in the buisness i had before they even sponsored me. I had an engine builder who was a mopar nut give me a bunch of free work one year, and the best paying sponsor i ever had was a former school friend of mine who now is an electrical contractor. he sent me a check every week for $20, after he saw that i had raced..that way if i had blown up mid season and sat out he wouldnt be out the cash of paying like $400 up front for the season..i liked it cuz i had my pit pass money every week. this is a good approach to take with alot of sponsors, beacuase they feel more secure with the investment..

remember , to most sponsors it is an advertisement!
again good luck , thats a sharp truck , even if its a chebby chassis!

I TALKED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERS ALSO. ALL THAT I KEPT GETTING IS " THEIR INSURANCE WON'T LET THEM DO IT"! THE DODGE LETTERS ARE ON THERE ONLY UNTIL I GET A SPONSOR. THE ELITE TRANS. FOR THE DISABLED ON THE SIDES NEXT TO THE NUMBER IS MY GIRLFRIEND'S BUSINESS. SHE HELPS AS MUCH AS SHE CAN AFFORD. BUT, IT JUST AIN'T COVERING IT. I GET DISCOUNTS THROUGH MY MOPAR CLUB "HPAC". BUT, ALOT OF STUFF IS NON-DEALER OR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE PIECES. ALOT OF MOROSO AND EDELBROCK. I STILL NEED TO HAVE A TRANS. CROSSMEMBER MADE, HAVE MY ENGINE LOWERED 2" FOR AIRCLEANER CLEARANCE, AND HAVE A DRIVESHAFT MADE. I HAVE TO GET A NEW 5 PT. HARNESS (LESS THAN 3 YRS. OLD), AUTO SHIFTER, AND A NEW ALUM. RACING SEAT W/ COVER AND RIGHT HEAD SUPPORT. I ALSO NEED A 1 WIRE 100 AMP INTERNAL ALTERNATOR. I STARTED RACING IN 1996 DRIVING A 70' MONTE CARLO. BUT, IT GOT THE REAR CLIP KNOCKED OFF OF IT. I THEN WENT TO A 78' MONTE CARLO THAT WAS TOTALED IN 1998. BECAUSE OF ANOTHER DRIVER'S INPATIENCES.
I THEN PURCHASED A STRIPPED OUT EX DRAG 83' OLDS CUTLASS SUPREME.
I RACED IT UNTIL 2002. I THEN DECIDED TO SCRAP THE BODY AND BOUGHT THE 78' DODGE POWER WAGON FOR $50.00 AND MOUNTED THE CAB, DOORS, AND FRT. CLIP ON THE OLDS CHASSIS.THE BED SIDES, LWR DOORS, AND LWR FENDERS ARE MADE FROM 2'X2' PIECES OF 22 GAUGE SHEET STEEL. THE NOSE AND TAIL ARE PLASTIC 2000 RAM PIECES.

Probably not a good photo to show to potential sponsors.

Do you have any of you and the truck in victory lane?

BLACKWOLF

NO I DON'T, IT ISN'T FINISHED. I STARTED BUILDING IT IN 2002. I HAVEN'T RACED IT YET.

I WORKED AT AUTO BODY SUPPLY STORE HERE IN KANSAS CITY. THE OWNER BOUGHT ME TIRES AND A ENGINE REBUILD KIT FOR THE CAR. I TOOK A STACK OF CATALOGS WITH ME TO THE RACES. THAT MONDAY THERE WAS 12 GUYS THAT I RACE WITH THAT CAME IN AND BOUGHT PARTS FOR THEIR CARS AND TOW VEHICLES. ONE GUY BUILT HIS TRUCK WITH PARTS FROM US. THE ANNOUNCER WOULD SAY THEIR NAME ABOUT 4 TIMES PER RACE.

Try to talk to local radio stations.  We like to get our logos on everything :yesnod:

I cant afford $250, but I would be willing to chip in with a few others here to put these words all over it.

THE NEW DODGE CHARGER SUCKS!

i think ive got ya beat on the fire lol  hate when those happen.

is that a mopar engine in there or still runnin the chebby stuff?

somewhere ive got pics from victory lane with miss wisconsin. even racing something different , and having a proven track record of doing well its tough..but the guy i went to school with who sponsored me told me he remembered going to the races once and hearing my name announced. i was starting from the back and it just blew him away watchin me come through the whole pack (an bragg that he knew me)...those are the people who will sponsor you.

BLACKWOLF

HEY CHRIS, DID YOU NOTICE THAT MY ROOF WAS MISSING. IT FLEW 20 FEET IN THE AIR AND LANDED OUTSIDE OF THE TRACK.
IT HAS A 10.5 TO 1 360 W/ 2.02 & 1.60 HEADS. A 727 TORQUE FLITE TRANS. . IT WAS ENGINE DYNO-ED AT 375 HP AT 5,100 RPM / 400 FT. OF TQ @ 4,800 RPM. I MIGHT BE REPLACING AXLES, IT HAS THE 7.5 10 BOLT GM REAR END W/ WELDED SPIDERS. MY 355 CHEBBY DIDN'T HAVE NEAR THAT KIND OF  TORQUE.

pretty close to the setup i had for engine, accept mine was internaly balanced and had 273 conecting rods and floating pins. we were limited to .450 lift at valve and stock 2bbl carb cast int cast exhaust. if you are geared to run in 2nd a buildt 904 will survive pretty well if you buy a torque converter with a hardned pump drive (otherwise the corners break off the converter). also have the pump "loosened up". my 904 had verry tight tolerances and was actually scarred a bit when the tranny guy opened it up. when i went from a 727 truck trans to my buildt 904 i lost 75 lbs off the car, mostly rotating weight.
