383 Which Carter Fuel Pump and Push Rod?

Hey guys,

My 68 Charger with 383 had to be towed home a few weeks ago, died on me while cruising down the road. Popped off the air cleaner and looked at the sight glass on the bowls of my holley carb, bone dry. Tank, sending unit, and lines are new. Fuel pump is about a year old. Fuel pump push rod has never been replaced. I am going to put in a new pump and push rod.

I see many options for pumps, There is 3 different Carter's in the $40-50 range that says fits 361-440ci and a chrome holly one for $115. There is also a couple fuel pump push rods from comp cams, bronze tip or regular. On the specs for the pump push rod it says 0.434in in length is this correct?

My motor is a basic stock build 383 Magnum with a comp 270/470 cam. Holly Aluminum 770 Street Avenger Carb.

On the fuel pump I'd like to go with a little bit better one than stock to make sure I'm getting enough fuel for my 770 street avenger when at full throttle.

I don't mind spending a little extra money to make sure I get one that will last me. This is the 3rd fuel pump in the last 3-4 years, Could have been the push rod this whole time though I'm not too sure. My pump may still be good but it's just a cheapy Napa one so I would rather replace it when installing the new push rod.

Looking for the correct push rod and pump that will work best for my engine and maybe even gain a little performance if possible

Thanks Guys

use a normal steel pushrod , the bronze tipped on is for billet roller cams .
the ends of the rod are slightly smaller diameter but shouldbe equal in length , you will see immediatly if the pushrod is worn down . the pump you have will probably be just fine although the new fuel with a lot of alccohol in them will eat the rubber diaphragm in the pump .
Carter 3672 or 4845 would be my pick , both have the threaded fitting for the hard steel line up to the carb

push rod should be 3.25" long if I remember...I got 3 here as spares for my 383's....

Thanks for the help, I'd like to go with the 4845, It says 440 pump. Will this work on my 383? If so I'm going to order it today. Also is that comp cams push rod the correct one? seems to be the only one I can find.

Ordered the 3672 since I have factory metal fuel lines, not sure if they were the same size.

Called comp cams to double check before I placed order, I have Comp Cams 21-306-4 cam and they said Pump rod 4626 is designed for my cam.

Thanks for the suggestions with pump Chryco Psycho!
