Are the crank pully from a cast crank and forged crank the same?  We putting together a 440 with forged crank and having trouble getting the belts to line up with the alternator and power steering pump. We have a 4 belt pulley that is for an  A/C set up, but not going to put the A/C back on,  any suggestions?

pulleys should interchange....I would suggest you get the 2 groove pulley if yer not gonna put AC back on

Different pulleys , the cast crank damper is thicker so the puley is less deep , the best solution is to buy a matched set from Mancini , I have over 35 puleys I have saved , they never seem to line up with what is needed !!

Amen...Unless you have a MATCHED set off an engine, you can swap out even small block pulleys to fit The BB engines. However, be prepared for nothing to line up correctly.

Thanks for the replies guys.
We were handed a bunch of parts to install the engine and trying to make them work. I suggested going with a serpentine system to save time and aggravation,  we'll see. Maybe ordering a match set is best.

Actually, the damper is no thicker where the pulley mounts, the bulbuous weight only makes it appear that way.  The only BB damper that is actually thicker at the mounting surfaced is the Hemi.

just removed my single pulley to install a double pulley on the crank. 1 bolt hole did not line up.

yup...just elongate the hole in the pulley for bolt to go through..you either have an early balancer or early pulley...I think all the holes lined up around 68 or so

Bryan

yah was going to elongate.

i have a stock 68 383 and i picked up the pulley somewhere over the years.

my 66's have the pulleys & balancers with one hole a bit off from the rest

'72 was the year of the change in bolt pattern, '71 and earlier have the offset bolt hole, '72 and later have a symmetric pattern.
