The car is a solid California car with minor rust in the lower quarters, and back window. The car was a 440 auto, now it has a 4 speed. The fender tag reads like this...

N88 P31 R21 V1X V83
G11 G33 H51 L31 M21 M31
AO1 A47 B41 B51 C16 C55
T8 CRX X9 830
E86 D32 XS29L9B

The car is complete, and has a rebuilt non #s 440. The buckets are not original, and the door panels have speaker holes. The car has been out in the open for at least 20 years, and is weather beaten. The grill has a few broken spots, but it's repairable. Passenger fender needs some metal work. he says the cc and head lights work. He says he might be able to get the original block back. What should I offer this guy? I want to make a reasonable offer with out insulting him.

Any chance of pics? Pics will help out a bunch on everyone's price opinions.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Shakey

You'd better post some pics or you won't get an accurate estimate.

Rule #1 newbie..post pics whenever possible.

Welcome to the site

In this case as most others pictures are the only way we even have a chance of guessing what its worth.

If you just want a # I would say $7500 but without seeing the car I could be WAY off and that figure goes up and down.

Is the car a pale blue? Are you sure that's not T3? There's no T8 for a paint code I know of...  Looks like a desireable car to say the least....

Here are some photos, I tried to get more to load but I couldn't do it.  I have other photos of the quarters the only rust is a small spot in front, and rear of rear tires. The doors and fenders are rust free.

mally69

get more  pics of the lower sections bottom of doors fenders and quarters rear valance etc       if it were me id offer him maybe 2000  to see what his reaction is  right off the go but thats just me
really it all depends on you  how much you want to spend to fix  it  and how much you really want it

my 69 charger heck the quarters were actually hanging off of it the only reason i bought mine was because it was a late 69 car and was optioned ev2 hemi orange im just about done with it now

Blown70

Well take a good look around the windows, LAY in the trunk and look up, around all the edges fenders rockers etc,,, LOOK AT THE FRAME around the rear section.  and torsion bars

That car looks by the pics to need a fair amount of work.... Again that is what I can see in the pics.... You need to look for yourself pics can be tough to tell fully.

I looked closer at the car, and I could see that it was a medium to light shade of blue t-3 originally. The cover on the dash is an old sheepskin seat cover from the 80s, that hangs down and covers the gauges from the sun. The guy says it runs good and smokes the tires with ease. I just wonder if the broadcast sheet was in one of the buckets that were tossed. The rear seat looks original to the car. The console top plate has been hacked up to install the 4 speed. The radio is long gone, but I have an original am-fm I got at a swap meet last year.

Don't offer, ask him to set the price.  It will only cause bad feelings if you offer first.

Mmmm...stripe delete car. I love those emblems. :icon_smile_cool:

Looks like the back window trim is missing, maybe they took it off when they stripped the vinyl from the roof. The bottom of the back window is a very common place to have rust holes, especially in the corners. If you get in the trunk, look up & see daylight, there's rust holes.

I'd try to pry out of him what he considers it to be worth. You never know, some sellers may think it's only worth 1,000 & some may think more like 10,000. If he doesn't want to give an asking price & wants you to offer instead, I'd hit him at 3,000 & see what happens.

What's your budget like anyway?

I don't really have a budget, but I don't want to pay more than I can get out of it, if I need to sell it. I have 20 cars now, and when I find something better than what I have I try to trade up. The fender tag was hard to read with lots of crud stuck to it, so that is why the codes are coming up wrong.

The cars I have include... the keepers '70 cuda 440+6 4 spd shaker hemi orange, '70 cuda 440 4 spd triple black 78,000 miles, '69 426 Hemi coronet 4 spd 8400 original miles, '70 AAR 4spd fe5, '68 Road Runner 63,000 miles bench seat 4 spd, '71 cuda sassy grass green 340 auto, '70 barracuda gran coupe, '70 barracuda slant 6 converted to v8, '71 Road Runner curious yellow air grabber 4 spd, '71 satellite sebring 1 old lady owner that looks cool with 15x7 rallyes.

The cars to sell include... '72 Charger listed in cars for sale, '72 dart swinger 29k original miles, '69 coronet 440 station wagon was 383 2 bbl now 440, '64 fury, '64 sport fury, '57 corvette, '71 pontiac trans am, '70 lt1 roadster corvette, and a '72 Hurst Olds Indy pace car.

No, I am not a rich guy. I just started buying cars when I was 16 in 1981, and kept trading up. I think I have had around 250 cars over the years. I was never really into Chargers, so I wanted the opinions of guys that live these cars. I am not the typical car flipper because there are some cars I won't sell. When I think of a car flipper I think of a guy just looking to make a killing on any car. Most of the cars I have, I have had since the 80s to early 90s.

I have saved lots of cars from the crusher, but have sent some that should not have seen that fate. For example I parted a complete running $425 '72 purple no rust rallye charger 440-4spd dana 60 go wing, back in 1988. Back then nobody wanted a 3rd gen Charger. I also parted several 70 cudas, and barracudas, if I had only had somewhere to store those cars. When I was a kid my dad owned an auto wrecking business, he sold it when I was 8. I was hooked on muscle cars at the age of 15, but didn't buy my first mopar until 1986.

That first mopar is the triple black cuda. That car was $1800 all #s matching one of 334. The most I ever paid for a car was $12,500 2 years ago for the Hemi Coronet that still had the original goodyear red line tires. Yes, it was a lucky find, but I was the 3rd person to look at it. The two other guys were very cheap, and each of them only offered $10,000.

Back in the 80s all of my friends would say " Why do you waste all of your money on those gas hogs?". My friends were smarter than I, they were driving new Trans ams, Toyota 4 wheel drives, and some had Japanese, cars. I see all of those cars in the local pick and pull now. It was not easy to hold on to these car over the years, I had a few stolen, and the state of Ca. with the smog check program of the 80s, and 90s was a real pain. My wife says that I'm crazy, but she lets me do what I want. She is the one that deals with the DMV, I don't have the patience to go and deal with them, except to renew my license.

Thanks for the help on pricing this car, maybe in a couple of years( if I get it) I will have it nice enough to post a photo on this site.

I have had no PMs or emails about the cars. I only have the '72 charger se for sale. I like to sell one car at a time, I think that is why I have so many. Sometimes really good cars come up, and I am so addicted to these cars I buy as many as I can find space for. Years ago I would pass up the plain cars like the '71 satellite, but now they look good. In the 80s-90s the '71-72 b bodies did not appeal to me. I know of around 10 cars I want to buy, but owners don't want to sell, and that's good as I'm running out of room. In that list there's a "68 Hemi Charger, '70 charger rt 440+6 one owner 61,000 miles, 71 cuda 340 4 spd a/c, 63,000 miles. I think I am the only one who knows about these three cars as they have been hidden away for years.

I don't think I could deal with selling 10 cars at once, too many people too much trouble.  I'm sure I would need a dealers license if I was to sell more than 4 or 5 a year.

Charger_Fan

The 71-72 B-bods didn't appeal to me either, for quite a long time. Then I got a 72 Satellite for cheap & quickly grew to love them. I'd say they bodystyle is definitely a love/hate deal. I'd like to get another one some day.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

I live in No. California, and I am one of the few that were born here. 4 other family members moved out years ago. Just me, and my 68 year old dad have stayed.

On another note I just went to the Watsonville Dodge dealer and picked up two old dealer signs (Plastic). One is the blue Plymouth sign 3x8 feet, and the other is a 5 foot red, and white pentastar with an aluminium frame. These signs were listed on craigslist for $275 for both. I was looking for stuff to decorate my new garage. On the way home I stopped to drop off a set of nos 426 hemi pistons to a guy in Aromas (a small town near Monterey). I saw some old polyglas tires stacked outside. I asked the guy where he got them, and his reply was "You want to buy them". He had 3 E60X15 These are the hardest tires to find for an AAR. I was shocked when he told me $150 for all 3. The tires are like new no cracks, and one still has nubs on the tread! Now I finally have a set of originals for my aar G60 rear E60 front.
