I have a 1968 charger R/T, 440 with a 727 Automatic Transmission.
Is there and differences between a 1977-1978 727 transmission and my 1968 727 transmission.
Are they totally interchangeable??  Are there any fit or function concerns??
Thank you - John

There are no external differences that affect interchangeability, lots of internal differences though.

In the case of the '78 (first year for converter lockup) there was one only BB 727 that had a lockup converter but they're not too common
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John
The 727 Torqueflite Transmission is from a 1978 Chrysler Imperial.  I haven't seen it yet but was told that the engine has stampings contains 7T 440E and 1 26.  I believe that the 7T indicates 1977 and I hope that the 1 26 isn't the data January 26th.  I would think that that would be too old to have been in a 1978 car.  I was led to believe that the engine was the original engine in the 1978 Imperial.  What do you think or anyone else.

John - How and Where is the transmission marked that may show the BB 727.  If it is a BB 727, does that make it incompatible with my 1968 Charger R/T or does it require additional hardware or modifications??  Am I better off passing on the transmission.

Sorry to Hi jack but if i could also throw John a quick Q ..... i have a 78 440 from a new Yorker from what i have been told in my 69 and the 727 is possibly not the original piece either that was mated up behind the original 383 that has the stampings 3681054-4336-6164.

I did a quick search and it looks like its from something that had a 400 engine???

Does this sound about right and any pros/cons with this particular box i should be aware of???

3681054 is from a '73 400-2.

4336 is the build date June 11, 1973.  (very late '73)
