I don't like any modifications to these cars that became "popular" after 1982.

I get annoyed by tires that don't fit in the wheelwells.

Lots of guys say, "The tires clear the sheetmetal fine when you're cruising around or blasting on a straightaway.  Just don't steer/corner/bump it too hard and flex the sidewalls."

IMHO that's like saying, "The engine fits in the engine bay fine when you're idling & putting around.  Just don't go revving it very hard or it'll flex the motor mounts and start hitting stuff."

QuoteOne more, Under hood painted BLACK like a Damn GM car.

General Lee replicas get a pass on this one.  The closeup prop-cars had black engine bays and the fictional GL was originally black.

The General Lee's are something that never was. The vanishing point Challenger never was. The bullet Charger never was. They are images made up from the cars we like. Oh crapp did I say it. There is no easter bunny.
I love seeing these images reproduced. They help keep the old cars alive. No problem here with the graphics on the general lee's. They kept the body lines and trim for 68 & 69 as is/was. Those making the films knew what was over the line regarding the star of the show :yesnod:

Kern Dog

Maybe already covered, but here is my list:
1) NON Mopar engine in it.
2) BLACK engine bay.
3) Leaf spring shackles
4) Tires sticking out past the body line
5) Hood scoops an any 2nd gen Charger
6) 70 R/T door scoops. These hide the scallops on the doors which I feel is a great styling feature.
7) 14 inch wheels
8) 15 inch wheels (Kidding!)
9) Curb feelers
10) Those "Crying dolls"  that some people put out at car shows, leaning against the bumper. What the hell are these supposed to be anyway?
11) 20 inch wheels. Yes, I have 18 inch wheels on my car, but my intention was to have a full wheelwell, wide tires and adequate ground clearance.
12) 1st gen Hemi motors.
13) Yellows, orange (Except GL cars) Beige, light gold....any color that lacks "pop".
14) Tuck and roll upholstery
15) Aftermarket A/T shifters.
16) Tach on the steering column when one is already in the dash
17) Roll bars in a 15 second car
18) Body colored bumpers on certain colors. White, yellow, gold, beige, blue.....Not so good. Dark colors with painted bumpers look decent to me.
19) Radiator support NOT blacked out on light colored cars. I was guilty of this but I have since changed my position.
20) Traction bars

This is merely my opinion. Many of these things are not seen much since these cars have increased in value.

Very interesting thread.  :scratchchin:
I'll stick with the OP's question "something I would never do to my own car": Modify the body.

If I were to have another custom, I wouldn't want to shave the drip rails, door handles, side markers, etc. I wouldn't chop the top, channel, shorten, lengthen, etc. To me the Charger body style is just beautiful the way it is, timeless.
In the same breath I'm also NOT knocking anyone's car that has these modifications, in some cases it does look good. It all depends on the car. But I just prefer them is all.

Boy.... almost everything everyone hates, I like on Chargers.. white lettered tires showing, aluminum slotted wheels, side pipes etc.  :shruggy:

But mostly I don't care for the jacked up ass look, black engine compartments, non-stock engine callouts (like HEMI in the R/T stripe on a 318 car), painted bumpers, diamond-tuck interiors, and M/T shifters.

don't like huge wheels and rubber band tyres  or cars that have been lowered that far that they have to go over speed humps one wheel at a time at 3 MPH  :yesnod:

charger_fan_4ever

1) Any hood scoop on a 68-70 charger
2) Big bling ricer wheels/ or blacked out style rims with rubber band tires
3) Custom interiors
4) Chrome parts that are painted body color
5) blacked out under hoods

I don't think there is anything i can add? On another note, i don't like people who don't drive their cars and i think it looks silly to see a car show up at show on a trailer. :Twocents:

I agree, if you don't drive it you miss out on the whole experience of owning it. The rumbling sound and feel of exceleration . The thumbs up, smiles ,and car talk that occurs when you have it out . If you don't drive it ,you don't really own it.

hate a beautiful restored car and then they buy those disgusting cheap "chrome nugget" or "gold nugget " rims for it !

80's pastel custom paint jobs, now 70's custom paint jobs can be cool !

Anyone who ruins a nice hood to put on a  Mailbox hood scoop!

Stupid dolls leaning in the corner of a cars bumper at shows. ( I just want to run up and kick the little chit across the show field ) LOL

Show boards propped in front of their car that says that they have 600 horsepower and it's a stock motor with a chrome kit on it.

Any body modifications to any brand of muscle car, leave that to the street rodders.

Not choosing the right tire size for your muscle car, it can make or break the cars look!

Trunk full of stereo equipment, just more weight to slow it down. ( every 100lbs is a tenth )

Muscle cars jacked up way to high and the rear tires stick out 5 inches past the wheel well opening!

A nice looking car with cheap side exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels! ( with the exception of T/A's and AAR's )

Racing stickers all over a muscle cars windows and fenders.

Fuzzy dice belongs in 1950's cars not muscle cars.

When some jerk at a show thinks my car is a clone !

Don't like:

- Anything DOH or GL related
- Rubber band tires
- Black wheels
- Wide whites
- RWL showing
- Accordian hoses
- Flip-lever radiator caps
- Rolling boom boxes

I'll agree with everything above with the exception of raised white letter tires. Many 60's & 70's cars came with them & they don't bother me at all.

ACUDANUT

I don't like people that bash other peoples cars when they have nothing better, or..... no real Mopar at all. (sorry: pick-ups, shadows, 2.2 cars, LA barons and Magnums don't count)

charger_fan_4ever

I think the biggest pet peeve is when I see mr know it alls tearing up a guys car right in front of them at shows. I'd like to punch them in the face for the owner.

Thats my biggest pet peeve.

Even if you don't like something just walk on by.

Then again thats more a question of people's morals.

69rtse4spd

Variety is the spice of live, if we all built are cars like the factory then there would far fewer of them. We all love the body style, but some see it a little different, hence the mods.If they didn't build them to there likes then the cars would have probably ended up crushed or parted out. As far as black under hood, until I paint it, that's the way it will stay, & right now I don't have to worry about banging it or scratching it. Like they say opinions are like a$$holes everone has one, & as stated before if you don't like it keep quit or simple say thanks for saving another one. :Twocents:.

I was starting to think I would never agree with you in this thread until this, the black engine compartment.  Just being lazy to leave it black.

I also do not like.

- Cragar SS wheels. . hate is actually a better word.

- Steel wheels with hubcaps

- 14X5.5 Magnums. . . at least get some 15X8's.

- Trailer queens. . they were built to drive.

- Side pipes.

- Shackles. . . I hate the look of the rear all jacked up and 15X10 wheels sticking out from the sides.  :rotz:

- Don't care for vinyl tops either. . . and yes, I have one.  :P
