Question about air cleaner modifications

Has anyone modified a dual snorkel aircleaner (1970's design) to work with a drop base?

I would like to use a 14" 3.5" element with a higher than stock manifold (Performer RPM) and keep the look of the dual snorkel with pie tin top.  First, I thought I could cut a great big stonkin circle out of the bottom part of the dual snorkel assy to slide over the element.  But then I realized that to keep it from falling apart, I will need to affix the this bottom part of the dual snorkel assy either to the top lid (with adhesive?) or to the drop base.  Does anyone have a clever fix, or can point me to a place where a modification like this has been described?

Is it going to look stupid with the filter sticking out below the base?  Or will the overhang hide it.

Thanks
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....
