I have a 1973 440 and a 1965 413 both out of Imperials.
Question #1: does the '73 have a forged crank? I heard somewhere forged cranks stoped in '72, please clarify.

Question #2 Can I run the forged 413 crank in the 440 without complications?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

#1 Maybe yes, maybe no. The cast crank was introduced in '73 in the standard performance engine; it could be either cast or forged, look for the letter "E" stamped in the data pad and/or the "for cast crank only" on the harmonic balancer.

#2 Yes, as long as you run the correct harmonic balancer.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I'd get everything rebalanced just to be safe.

The 440 flywheel will bolt on car 413 crankshaft and as cooter said it should be rebalanced, 440's weren't very well balanced from the factory. One other thing to check for with the crankshaft is to make sure it is correctly machined for a pilot bushing before the engine is assembled.
