How important is to have kickdown linkage on the car. What else it does besides shifting transmission

It makes sure the trans does not slip in gear. The more the throttle is open the high the oil pressure goes in the trans, so you need to have it hook up or the trans will burn up. The only way you can get rid of it is to go to a racing manual valve body. That is what I did and my car never goes to the track. My trans guy set it up so it shifts hard but not to hard, how he did it I don't know. He claims the trans will last longer to. I do have 3.91 gears so its no problem leaving it 2nd or 3rd for the starts. I like it but everybody would not.

Guy showed me how to do it on transmission, I still need to find kickdown linkage though

The linkage is available from several sources, one is CRT:

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I still think the money should just go to a Cheetah manual valve body and throw away that linkage or sell it on e-bay. Just drove it today and its no problem taking off in second from the light. In fact its better , don't need first unless something really nice is next to me, and I can floor  it at any speed and not have it down shift to first. Its fun to be neck and neck at 30mph and then as the speed climbs over 40-45 it goes like crazy. As a bonus there is more room to adjust the kickdown band on the side of the trans.

If you need a kickdown linkage (external)  I have one.  I put in a manual valve body  so that basically rendered mine useless.  I have the connections to it also, but the part that bolts up onto the intake is incorrect, but works.   I'm not sure if I have the piece that clips on the carb, but I'll look :icon_smile_wink:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

IF i was to install a manual valve body in a car it would ojnly be one that has low band apply.   does your cheata free wheel in first when you let of the throttle?.  i personally dont have any desire to have a full manual valve body in any of my street cars.

Will the factory kick down linkage set up  work with a performer rpm intake and demon carb?I'm going to swap my intake and carb out soon and need to know what I'm up against.I've seen were you can get taller throttle cable brackets but what about the kick down?

Chryco Psycho

the kickdown is actually a throttle pressure control lever & the trans will not live long without one
you will have to modify the linkage to work with taller intakes & different carbs
Demon Holley & Eddy all have throttle lever adapters for use on Mopars, make sure you use one , it keeps the ratios correct between the throttle position & the kickdown movement

I just went through this and the short answer is that you are much better off using a Lokar cable instead of the factory linkage. www.bouchillonperformance.com seems to have the complete package as well as http://www.4secondsflat.com/ar2.html.
I went with FBO systems but the Lokar cable that Bouchillon sells is more of a turn-key application.
