68/69 is a tossup for me, with 70 trailing behind a little.  I like the SE option on '69's, and agree the grille is nicer, but I'm torn on the taillights.  I like the 68 stripe and markers better.  Also don't care for the door lock location on the 69/70's.  The 70 SE door panels are the coolest but the key location/column isn't as nice as in the dash on 68/69's.

For me it's the 68-69 with 70 close behind. can't deny they had a winner. It will last longer than we will. Most of us get imprinted with a car image early on and that stays with us forever. My example was a 69 superbee. My first new car at nineteen. When the 70 coronets came out I could not believe any one would want one of those. What put me off was they called it a coronet. It looked good but was not what they said it was. (think new 4 door charger). The 70 coronets look much better today than they did when they came out and I like the look of the newer chargers but they should have used new names for them. The new challenger lives up to it's old name. Wish they would do that for the charger.

To me the cheese grater grille on a 69 makes it look less muscular somehow. No surprise but I've always preferred the 70 over the rest....everyone had already bought a 68 or 69 so the 70s are rarer and have all the cool options. I think the open grille on a 70 and 68 looks tough / mean.

So in top 6 order I'd go with:

70
71
68
69
72
67

And don't forget the Daytona had a 70 hood and fenders.  :nana:

  2 bonus points for 1970.  They are right up there with 1971 Chargers now!

68 is the best always has been always will be

I'm with Stu............68's are great!!!!!!!!!!!! Far above 69's and 70's

For me, it's a toss-up between the '68 and the '69.

Like someone else said earlier, the '69 tail lights look better. IMO the wide bar-style lights match the rest of the car better than the two little round ones. The '68s have a much meaner looking front grille. I've always thought they looked tougher from front-on.

I suppose I COULD just bolt a '68 grille onto the front of my '69..? Hahaha :icon_smile_big:

Never been a fan of the wrap-around grille on the '70s... No particular reason, don't think it's particularly ugly or anything, I just think the '68/69 grilles are a lot better.

I also like the '66/67s, but I'd buy an Aussie Valiant Charger before I bought one of them  :yesnod:

I am the owner of a 1971 charger . The charger that trumps my 1971 by a small margin is the 1968 charger . You gotta love that tail! Those Circle tail lights and a non divided front grill with hideaways. I hope to one day Park one next to my 71.

Funny how a bunch of Mopar folks love to add "Corvette Style" Tail lights to a Charger.... :nana:

Cooter I was just thinking about that!  In the 5 years I woned my 68 I never really got used to them.  The grille is awesome but nothing beats the 69/70 taillights.

I thought this was supposed to be a thread about the most desirable charger in general, not our personal opinions but okay...
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Even i like the 69-70 style over the 68's  i have nothing against them i just think the 69/70 fit the body lines better  :scratchchin:

For those that know my car situation, might be shocked.  I still think a 70 RT is the cats meow.   68 is growing on me every day though.... :2thumbs:

I had a 69 back in 82 and always wanted a 68. Liked the grill better, round taillights, and the round side markers that lit up...So got me a 68 now. I wouldn't' have a problem having any of the 2nd gens...These cars get the heart pumping like nothing else :2thumbs:

Totally of track, not what YOU like, what the masses considers the most desireable. Going off auction prices, repop parts and what Hollyweed likes I'd say 2nd gen.

I'm not sure the "masses" have a user ID here  :shruggy:

repop parts are not a good indicator.....tooling and production of parts is based on sales opportunities...rarer models, may be more desireable but not worth the investment in parts creation vs. return on investment. A one of 7 Hemi Cuda convertibles is super desireable but if there was a unique part for them why would I invest in making it when my total demand base is limited to 7 and some clones.

Taking the Dukes of Hazzard out of the equation.....I'd say Hollywood has used 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen cars across the board.

The 69 Charger did not have a cheese grader grill. Only the 71 Cuda had this.

New rule.  You have own a Charger to vote.

chargerboy69

Being as un-biased as I can I feel the 69 is the most popular.  Many here said what "they" like, and not what is actually the most popular.  Had they actually voted which is most popular, I believe a 69 would be the answer nearly every time. I have had a 68, a few 69's and a 71.

Just looking at NADA classic car prices, '69's are worth more than '68's.

Skip68 started a poll , which is the best way to find out which year is most desirable within this forum.  Nationally , we would have to look at historical car sales.  But that won't tell us what peoples favorite years are (today) in 2013.  I guess we can use skip68 poll as a sampling to get an idea of what charger enthusiast  today would choose. We would probably need a lot more participants  to get a more accurate idea.  :Twocents:

In all seriousness more people will buy 2013 chargers this year than any classic charger, wouldn't that technically mean its the most desirable?  :shruggy:

That would be the most practical. I'll bet many of the new charger buyers want a 66-74 .
