Power steering pump brackets

Need some help to figure out what's wrong with my Saginaw power steering pump installation on my -68 Charger with 440 (no A/C). The problem is that the front bracket does not line up good with the water pump housing upper stud. The previous owner shimsed the front and back, but I don't think that is correct. WP housing is correct, PS brackets look like they are for BB. I can't figure out why it won't line up good...  :shruggy:

Need a couple of pictures on a factory correct PS setup (Saginaw ona 68 BB), anyone?

I worked on this today and I see two problems... First, the front bracket won't line up good to the WP housing without using a spacer or shims. The upper WP housing stud just seems an inch too short?! But I don't get this, the brackets look allright and the WP housing is original.

Second, the rear bracket hits the pump house unless a small spacer is used on the lower mounting bolt. Which brings up another question... Were threaded studs used on the pump backside, or is the bracket mounted to the pump with bolts?

A couple of pics on a factory setup would be helpful. I suspect I have the wrong brackets here, but they sure look like the brackets used for BB engines?

your missing the two special mounting studs that hold the pump body together & to the bracket ,
looks like who ever riged your pump used too many washers & a  too longer bolt ,
would order up correct or find correct hardware  :yesnod:

the special studs are only  prolly about 1/4 inch thick

Tan top, thanks a million, one thing cleared up!! I will order that kit from BPE. Got to ask, should there be some kind of spacer or shims for the bracket that bolts to the waterpump housing? But maybe it clears up good when I get the correct studs for the backside...   :popcrn:

no spacers or shims between water pump housing  & pump brackets ,
with the 69 & up BB  saginaw pump & bracket , thats in the pictures i posted & what you have on your charger

having said this i'm thinking why someone has gone to all that trouble  with the washers etc & space it further forward , even going from A/C crank shaft pulley to a none A/C crank pulley , the bigblock power steering pulley & pump brackets are still the same ,

Great info and great pictures, thanks!  I will get the studs and take it from there. I have found lots of strange things on this car. This PS problem is only one of many (crappy) mods done by some previous owner.  :flame: I have spent a lot of time and money setting things back to factory. Starting to finally get there...!
