How do YOU mount your coil?

I'm sure that many here have aftermarket coils in their cars. I have an MSD Blaster 2. For years I had it mounted to the RH fender apron near the alternator. I am in the process of installing a new reproduction wiring harness and the coil wiring is too short to reach. I could mount the coil on the intake in front of the carburetor. In fact, I actually think it looks cleaner ans less cluttered there. The problem? MSD states in the instructions that because the coil is oil filled, it is recommended to be mounted upright.  Huh? ALL stock coils are oil filled, right? ALL stock coils were mounted horizontally too. What problems could arise from mounting the coil on its side?

I have my blaster 2 coil mounted on its side in the stock location, hasn't been a problem. The only issue I can see is cooling if there isn't enough oil in the coil or a possible leak. but like you say, they have been mounted that way for years. :shruggy:

Me three.
I have Blaster 2 coil that's at least 6 years old mounted in the stock location, and another that's at least 3 years old. No leaks at all.

Used to mount it in laying down position, but had to move it to an upright, mounted on firewall position in Chally.

I prefer to mount mine on the inner fender.  It stays cooler there and not sitting on top a 225 plus (degree) engine.

I have mounted my blaster 2 on its side for years also with no problems. I did buy one of these but never installed it.
