Perhaps, but in that link I posted one of the people interviewed said, "He vaguely recalled a few lawsuits brought against builders over the phrase." A vague memory is not evidence but it really wouldn't surprise me if someone sued over something like this. And as we all know, stupid ideas now travel at light speed thanks to the internet so stupid can spread real fast now.

Well whatever happened to freedom of speech?   If I want to get down on my knees in front of the Mrs. and call her master.............I should bloody well be able to!

Why call it agree when you can call it concur etc.  Maybe if we limit the language to one word per meaning we'd just have to settle for what we have and except it.
And there'd be less confusion as well.........people will actually be able to understand each other because everyone will have learnt the same basic English.

Several years ago realtors in California could no longer use the phase "with in walking distance" when advertising houses since it discriminated against physically handicapped people. Don't know if this was ever resolved.

like those 50 handicap parking slots in front of the casinos/shopping malls out here, if you can walk all over the casino/shopping mall, you can walk 150 ft to get to the door, i'm sure someone will yell at me for that but..........

Well, I won't YELL at you, but will explain.. Being a handicap myself and using the handicapped parking I am telling you from experience. 1) These spaces are designed to allow vans with wheelchair lifts a wide enough place to park. 2). Since many of us do not use a wheelchair every day, we still need close parking to be ABLE to walk around and shop or see a show. If I have to park 150 feet from a store or more it takes 150 feet or more out of my shopping.. My walking is very limited. So if I feel well enough to GO shopping I do need it to be someplace close or I cannot complete my shopping.

I have had to leave a store once with a nearly full cart. The store manager was nice enough to have it wheeled into a freezer until my older daughter could get there and pick it up...

Take a place like WALMART and add twice as much hell to it for me.. There are alllllllllllllways people stopping dead in front of me to compare products or try to remember what store they are in, (it is sometimes hard to tell which). Then the checkout lines are long as hell because they will not hire enough people to take care of everyone before their good melt.

I also park close at casino's as my truck is the most comfortable furniture I ever sit on outside of my own home.. You would think a casino would make their seats extremely comfy so people don't hurt and leave!!

i definitely feel wheelchairs should be up front, trying to see a wheelchair coming out from behind a car is like seeing a 5 yr old

however i do stand firm on the walking part, even if you walk SOMETIMES, then the walk from the parking lot should be part of the plan

don't get me wrong, i do understand that some are more in need than others but after the 60 minutes report years ago i just hate special parking spaces. its estimated that more than 50% of the handicap placards are given out by doctors rubber-stamping paperwork just so their patients don't take their business to another doctor, NOT because they really need them

That may have been years ago, but now it is paperwork that they have to fill out..

I have explained this to many, so one more time won't hurt. For me, I park in the handicapped spaces so that I can do my shopping.If it normally takes me 40 minutes to do my shopping I 1) Have to feel well enough to think I can walk and bend and lift and not kill people that want to stop in the middle of an isle to talk to someone. 2) I have to be able to walk in. Push a cart all over the store and load the cart. Unload the cart onto the conveyor and load the bags back into the cart. Then unload to my truck and unload my truck into my house. 3) To get from the closest place at my house into the kitchen it is 40-50 steps. So I also have to go back and forth with the groceries. Then be capable of putting them away once home...

Someone with a good back parks anywhere and walks into the store as if they have no plan. Nothing better to do. No time or strength restraints.. You can skip with your cart and bend easily to get the stuff you need that is ALLLLLLLWAYS on the BOTTOM SHELF and put it in and out of your cart over and over. Your vehicle too and when you get home you can also carry many more bags in at one time than I can....  Are you getting the picture now?? It doesn't hurt you to bend or push the cart. Or load/unload or carry it all in...

I have had to leave a cart full of food once. I had a worker follow me around once to show them how HANDICAP UN-FRIENDLY the store was. Over and over he was bending to the bottom shelf rather than all the typical use being in the middle.. This is done to make you see other things while hunting for that damned thing on the cert top or very bottom shelf.. Folgers Classic Blent for instance.. They sell some other Folgers crap that never leaves the shelves, but they want you to see it and try it.. They know if you do you will be back tomorrow for your classic blend anyway, so they screw you into trying the shit on the middle easy shelf..
I have taken my handicapped wife shopping and both grab carts and split the list to make it easier during the rainy season when the low pressure really kills me!!

If you are one of the lucky people in this country that DOES NOT NEED a handicapped placard you should be very happy you don't and be nice to those who do.. We are not a bunch of azzholes that have won the lottery.. Far from it.. We are the poor bassards that cannot do at least 50% of what you can!!! And what we still can do takes one hell of a lot of work on our part.. Not to mention how much additional time....

Now stop busting our chops and give someone handicapped a hand..

I have a friend who uses one (don't know how he came about considering there's absolutely nothing wrong with him) without shame just for the sheer convenience. It disgusts me no end when people chose to deliberately abuse the system and I've made my feelings known to him but I won't go so far as to dob him in. If he can live with himself, so be it.

I see handicapped people take advantage of others, or maybe it's more that they don't give a crap about others..  I see people often drive someone else to a store and they drop off whomever is with them to shop. Then they go park in a handicapped spot and read the paper or a book. The placard is for the actual handicapped person as a driver. It can also be for a passenger, but if you are going to sit in the car and wait, MOVE THE HELL to a normal spot!!!!

A few weeks ago at Walmart.. (I hate that place). A handicapped guy came out of the store in a powered wheelchair. It belonged to Walmart.  He opened his trunk and took his time putting his crap in the trunk. Then he backed the electric chair around next to his car. He HAD TO have seem me waiting and knew I must have been waiting for the handicapped spot, but that didn't matter. He parked the chair very close to his rear 1/4 and INSIDE THE BLUE BOX. I opened my passenger window and read him the riot act.. The bassard parked it INSIDE THE BLUE BOX and got up like it was nothing. Walked over to his drivers side door when I stopped him.. If he would have got into his car I would have pulled right behind him and parked my truck!!!!! This guy was straight STUPID!!!!!

And for those that don't know, I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.. We are in  the top 5 places for handicapped people in the states.. A huge percentage of us are military also..
