So I traded some "services rendered" for this, it's a CVA Hawken Percussion Muzzleloader in .50 caliber. I've always wanted to get into the black powder game and now I am. So now I just need to find a .50 Caliber bullet mold and a powder horn!

We used to have one, a blast to shoot (pun intended) and relitivly cheap. Have fun!

Awesome smoke-pole and I am sure you are going to enjoy shooting it!

Needed a really good cleaning inside and out and fired a few shots. Forgot how much fun black powder can be. I want a modern reproduction of an 1851 Colt Navy to match the civil war one in my safe as well.

Only sad part is CVA discontinued their old style Muzzleloaders so finding replacement parts is near impossible.  :-\

had the 45 cal mountain rifle they are great to shoot ,lots of fun.  makes a hunt a real hunt no 500 yard shots.if you look hard enough you should be able to find a double mold .with the 45 one was 300 grain the other was 450 grain  ,the lighter bullet was more accurate and had less felt recoil .also mine preferred pyrodex to old fashioned black powdeer. good score :2thumbs:

i have almost the same weapon but in .54 hawken. Lots of fun to shoot, however my David Pedersoli Kentucky rifle is more accurate past 100 yards. the longer barrel sure makes a difference. I love hunting with them. Its much more of a challenger. You have 1 shot. then quite a lag time before a follow up. Plus when you shoot just above some tall grass you can hear the bullet sweeping over the grass.

My grandmother told me that somewhere in her storage is a set of bullet molds that belonged to my great great grandfather. She believes one of them is a .50 caliber mold.

Hoping to pick up a nice .50 Caliber "Hawken" percussion pistol that is for sale on another forum! Would be nice to have a set!  :drool5:

That's a very nice looking old percussion pistol!  I hope you can get it too.  Those old percussion pistols with a big old 50 caliber ball are really fun to shoot! Makes big holes and creates a big smoking explosion doing it!

This percussion pistol is also nice! It's a reproduction of an 1855 Springfield pistol "carbine" in .58 caliber. Don't mind the 1911 as it's not for sale! Yes the stock is for the percussion pistol!  :2thumbs:

Now a really hard part is... I'm looking for a knife for my mountain man setup. I want something that looks period, not at all fancy, and I don't want to spend a crap ton of money for it either. (Found a pre-civil war bowie that I wanted really badly :p) Roughly I'm looking for something like these:

I like that hand forged blade look. Not shiny at all.

Drache, there are usually a few "reenactor" knives on Ebay that would fit your needs and, usually, not too expensive.  Look there and be patient, one will come along.

I typed reenactor into google and this came up. It's a "Rio Grande Camp Knife". It's a cheap knife at $50 plus another $30 shipping. But looks period:

A similar knife was used in 1860 during an assassination attempted on the US Secretary of State William Seward. Although that one was stag horn I believe.

Just picked this guy up as well so I have a backup/loaner

It's a Muzzleloading Armory Plainsman rifle in .50 Caliber as well.

*once again not picture of actual rifle as I don't have it yet*
